Next up is the Cup Quarter final 👊

We’re up against FC Thistle. FC Thistle have won 66 of their 68 Forres and Nairn league games since there formation and are currently on a 64-game undefeated league run stretching back 39 months. They give Alex Ferguson a run for his money with the amount of trophies.

We ran them close last time losing 4-2, which on reflection was probably an undeserved result for us, a couple of our own mistakes costing us.

We’d much prefer it if the end of season cups were not changed to benefit the teams at the top but it is what it is and we will show up and try our best! The trophy hunt continues!!

Riverside Thistle 3-3 Elgin Albion
Riverside Thistle win 4-2 on penalties ⚽💜

We knew we were in for a tough game against Elgin Albion. We had drawn earlier in the season before picking up a 3-0 win against them a few weeks ago, although the scoreline certainly didn’t reflect how close that game was.

We found ourselves 2-0 up thanks to goals from AJ Baird and Lachlan Innes, who both seem determined not to give up the fight for this season’s Riverside Golden Boot! 🥇

Aj Baird getting on the end of an excellent Joel Joyce corner, heading the ball into the ground and bouncing into the top left bins. 🗑️
Lachlan Innes then hitting a sweet left footed drive underneath the keeper after a nice through ball from Gavin Chisholm.

However, credit to Elgin Albion, who battled back brilliantly to turn the game around. Their comeback included an absolute rocket from around 35 yards, and heading into the final moments, we found ourselves trailing 3-2.

With only a few minutes remaining, the modern day baby faced assasin Brandon Scott was introduced and immediately made an impact, forcing an error from the opposition goalkeeper which allowed AJ Baird to grab his second of the night and level the game — also drawing him level with Lachlan in the goalscoring charts! 👀

With the game heading to penalties, Andy Young came up with a huge save, while Jordan MacDonald, AJ Baird, Lachlan Innes and Aaron Chisholm all held their nerve from the spot to secure a 4-2 penalty shootout victory! 🧤🎯

The win sees us progress into the quarter-finals, where we’ll face FC Thistle next Tuesday! 💪 We’re happy to listen to offers of any swap deals for any different opponents?!
