Some of you might have noticed I’ve been missing from Bootcamp for a while. At the end of May I had been at a class and noticed my arm felt sore and swollen. I went to A&E and was shocked to find out I had a DVT (blood clot) in my arm. I was started on blood thinners and told not to do any running, weights or other vigorous exercise for 6-8 weeks, and also wasn’t allowed to fly. Those that know me will know I found this extremely hard and I turned to cycling to keep busy. I was given the go ahead to start running and exercise again at the end of July, and my goal now is to complete the New York marathon in November. I also wanted to get back to Bootcamp, but I’m not allowed to do any upper body weights, so I got in touch with Alan to see if he could support me to get back to class. We decided 1-1 PT would probably be the best place to start, so I’m now back doing weekly PT with Alan. There was also a bit of boredom eating going on, so I’m back to using My Fitness Pal and sending my stats in daily. I’ve actually found this really helpful to get me back on track with my diet, and I’m noticing a difference in how I feel already. It’s great to be back and all being well I’ll be off to New York in November for the marathon 🏃‍♀️

If the number on the scales is controlling your mood, your food choices, or how “good” you feel about yourself, it might be time to take a step back, and try a new approach.

Stop focusing on only the ⚖️ . Your progress is so much more than a number. It’s how your clothes feel how your energy levels are it’s the whole picture.

You don’t need to starve yourself, constantly restrict calories aggressively, or cut out the foods you genuinely enjoy to make progress. In fact, approaches that leave you feeling deprived often become difficult to maintain long-term.

Instead, focus on the bigger picture: nourishing your body, eating enough, enjoying a variety of foods, building sustainable habits, getting stronger, having more energy, and feeling confident in what you’re doing.

The scales are just one piece of information they don’t tell you how your clothes fit as i mentioned earlier or how you feel, how your strength is improving, or how sustainable your lifestyle has become.

You shouldn’t have to choose between making progress and enjoying your food.

Maybe the goal isn’t to eat less and weigh less maybe it’s to build a way of eating and living that you can actually enjoy and maintain. If you’ve been stuck in the cycle of restriction and guilt, it may be worth looking at your approach from a completely different perspective.

Trust me doing this job for over 20 years I’ve learned that a one size for all approach does not work.

Since Derek Mcintosh started our classes he has lost an amazing 9 stone, though Derek supports hearts and we are sick of hearing how good they are this year, we can easily class Derek as one of our most valued, supportive and upbeat class members.

Go on guys say something kind …

5 Things Every Woman Should Know About Losing Weight 👇

1. You don’t need to starve yourself.
Eating too little isn’t the answer. Sustainable weight loss comes from nourishing your body while creating a sensible calorie deficit.

2. Protein is your best friend.
Protein helps keep you feeling fuller for longer and supports muscle maintenance while you’re losing weight.

3. Strength training matters.
Lifting weights isn’t just about getting stronger it can help you build and maintain muscle, improve your shape, and create a more defined physique.

4. Daily movement really adds up.
You don’t have to spend hours in the gym. Walking more, staying active throughout the day, and increasing your daily movement can make a significant difference over time.

5. Consistency will always beat perfection.
You don’t need to have a perfect week to make progress. Focus on building realistic habits that you can maintain long-term. 💪

Remember: it’s not about doing everything perfectly — it’s about doing the right things consistently. ❤️

I started my FBC journey back in 2014. In the first 6 months I dropped two dress sizes and have managed to maintain my weight fairly consistently ever since. I’ve just turned 60 and can say I’m much fitter now than I was in my 30s. My core fitness thanks to FBC has allowed me to take up long distance running and I’ve completed lots of 1/2 marathons as well as a full and an ultramarathon.

Training with FBC has really helped me with my mental health and supported me to get through a number of stressful life events.

You never know what’s coming and it does get easier! But the best bit - has been the pleasure of training with amazing groups of people who have become friends.
