Mum life is physical. Really physical.
Carrying a newborn.
Picking up a toddler… at the same time.
Pram hauling.
Bag hauling.
Carrying the car seat.
Lifting them into and out of the cot.
Standing rocking, swinging, a lot.
Pushing the double pram… up a hill!
Playtime.
Chore time.
And yet during pregnancy and after having a baby there is this idea that we’re fragile and need to watch what we’re doing.
Only do gentle basic movements.
Sorry but mum life does not wait until we’ve gotten strength back for the demand on our bodies to be there.
Exercising, particularly strength training, will keep us safer from injury pre/postpartum.
Let’s not decondition our muscles when we need them most.
Strength training isn’t about getting your pre-baby body back.
We’re preparing and supporting our bodies to 1. endure the toughest workout a women’s body will go through (labour) and then 2. power through mum life strong, all day everyday.
It’s about building a body that can carry, lift, bend, squat, push, pull and keep going — without feeling completely broken by the demands of motherhood.
Sore wrists.
Achy backs.
Sore neck.
Poor posture.
Ankles that crack and pop with every step.
I’ve had it all.
If you want to train through pregnancy, you can.
Once you’re ready to return to exercise post partum, you absolutely can.
You’re training for real life 🔥
Strong mums aren’t selfish.
Strength is self-care.
