🎉 Monmouth’s women’s captain Ashley Burdett compiled 295 league runs, including three half-centuries, at an average of 49.17, as her team secured fifth spot in South Wales Women’s Hardball League Division 1.

ℹ️ Sophie Davies also had an impressive summer, making 110 runs at 27.50.

ℹ️ Kelly Chilton took the bowling plaudits for Monmouth with 12 league wickets at an average of 8.75, including best figures of 4-18.

ℹ️ Burdett also picked up seven league wickets, with Penny Boyle taking six and Bea Jones, five.

👍 Monmouth’s women rounded off their hardball programme with a 45-run home defeat to champions Neath in which Boyle (3-36) and Burdett (2-19) helped restrict the visitors to 153-7 from 30 overs.

👏 Portia Neville made an unbeaten 54 for Neath, while Burdett (34), Chilton (14), Shannon Maguire (13) and Jill Jones (11 not out) all reached double figures as Monmouth replied with 108-6 from their 30 overs.

🙌 Opener Richard Cotton notched his maiden century for Monmouth Thirds in a memorable 118 against Malpas Fourths in South East Wales League Division 15.

ℹ️ Cotton topped the third team’s batting charts with 208 league runs at 69.33.

ℹ️ Tom Willgoss was second with 200 runs at 66.67, including 106 against Malpas Fourths.

ℹ️ Skipper Theo Minnie hit 169 runs at a respectable 24.14.

ℹ️ Minnie also weighed in with 13 league wickets at a cost of just 11.62, including 5-19 against Porth Seconds.

ℹ️ Promising teenager Daniel Bernard collected 11 scalps at 23.09.

📸 Monmouth Thirds (pictured) achieved three wins during the campaign to finish 11th out of 13 teams.

🏏 Promising Monmouth Seconds’ opener Jake Teague enjoyed his most successful season with the bat, hitting 479 league runs in South East Wales League Division 12 at an average of 29.94, including a personal-best of 92.

ℹ️ Skipper Andrew Dobbie struck 417 runs, including four half-centuries, at 41.70.

ℹ️ Ian Morgan marked his 34th season in Monmouth’s colours with 386 runs, including three half-centuries, at 42.89.

💥 Gareth Jones recorded the team’s sole league century with a sublime 138 against Llanarth Seconds and joins Jonathan Roberts in achieving the joint-fourth highest individual score by a Monmouth second teamer.

👏 That day, Jones helped Monmouth to 294-2 at neighbouring Llanarth - just 12 runs shy of the second team’s record total of 306-4 against Crickhowell Seconds in 2003.

ℹ️ In all, Jones made 215 runs for the seconds at an average of 53.75.

ℹ️ Gareth’s youngest son, Ieuan Jones was the second team’s most successful bowler, snapping up 11 wickets at 24.82, including the scalp of Welsh rugby legend Rob Howley, who was playing for Bridgend Fourths.

ℹ️ Fellow teen leg-spinner Monty Clarke collected 10 wickets.

ℹ️ Sam Uttley, who took a personal best 4-7, Aled Jones - in his 25th successive season with Monmouth - and Kit Skailes all captured nine wickets.

ℹ️ Wicketkeeper Dobbie claimed 10 victims, including two stumpings.

📸 Monmouth Seconds finished the season in seventh spot, one place and 13 points above the relegation zone.

💥 Two players who cut their cricketing teeth in Monmouth’s under-11 section played a leading role in the town club’s achievements at senior level this summer.

👌Youth products Ben Pilot and Ben Davies were among four players who registered 1st XI league centuries for Monmouth, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems.

👏 Pilot also guided Monmouth’s midweek side to a first Forest of Dean Hundred triumph after a 64-run win against Lydney in the Championship final at the Sports Ground.

🙌 Davies made a successful comeback to cricket after a five-year break and a welcome return to Monmouth, for whom he last played in 2017.

ℹ️ Davies notched two 1st XI league centuries, including a remarkable 190 - the highest individual score by a Monmouth batter at the Sports Ground - in a club-record total of 417-3 against Penarth Thirds.

ℹ️ Davies also topped Monmouth’s batting charts with 494 league runs at an average of 44.91.

👉The duo were influential as Monmouth 1st XI, under Peter Keay’s leadership, finished a respectable fourth in South East Wales League Division 6 following their Division 7 title-winning campaign in 2025.

ℹ️ Pilot was Monmouth’s second highest scorer in 2026 with 491 league runs at 40.92, including 104 against Penarth Thirds.

ℹ️ Adam Roberts also shone, making 327 league runs at 65.40, including a best of 119.

ℹ️ Glamorgan Under-16s Pathway player Osian Jones, who compiled 248 runs at 35.43, achieved his maiden century with 104 not out against Newport Fugitives Seconds.

ℹ️ And Tej Saran, who returned to the sport after five years, hit 225 runs at 56.25, including two half-centuries.

ℹ️ Pilot capped a fine all-round season, picking up 26 league wickets at 17.42, including a best haul of 4-29.

ℹ️ Eddie Atkinson was the second highest league wicket-taker for Monmouth with 21 victims at 19.95, including 5-28 against Hopkinstown.

ℹ️ Davies and Gareth Jones both claimed 17 wickets at 19.06 and 18.47, respectively, while captain Keay finished with 15 scalps, including 5-44 against Hopkinstown.

ℹ️ Gloveman William Wilton recorded 11 dismissals, including a stumping, while Will Hickmott and Keay both held seven catches.

With that, the 26/27 season comes to and end! A brilliant season with many strong points across the club. We saw new high scores, best bowling figures, outrageous catches and new team records across the board.

First and foremost, we’d like to thank everyone behind the scenes. Everyone who came to support us, those who helped get the games on and those who put in the hard yards behind closed doors. Thank you for everything!

The first XI finish agonisingly short of back to back promotions but it’s been another great campaign under skipper Peter Keay. Some really impressive performances and team displays boosted them to a respectable 4th place finish.

The second XI finish mid table in another good campaign. Under new captain Andrew Dobbie, they recorded 7 wins and 8 losses but nevertheless they remain in division 12 for next season. Some great performances from every player who represented the 2s this year, and a campaign to be proud of!

The third XI finish the season with 3 wins and the end of the season really showed a lot of promise for next season. A team full of youth, performances this year have really grown in strength and ultimately they ended the season with back to back wins. It was a great debut season from skipper Theo Minnie who led his team well and with pride. More of the same next year please Theo!

🏏 These two Monmouth Cricket Club legends need little introduction.

🙌 It was wonderful to see life-members and former first team skippers Gordon Grey and Idris Leonard reflecting on past cricketing glories at the Sports Ground at the weekend.

🎉 Both played in many Monmouth triumphs, including the club’s Gwent League Premier Division title success in 1990.

🌧️ Heavy rain washed out Monmouth Cricket Club’s promotion hopes in South East Wales League Division 6.

🙏 Needing a victory to keep their promotion challenge alive, Monmouth’s final league match yesterday at home to rivals Panteg Seconds was abandoned without a ball bowled.

👀 While both teams collected five points, the outcome didn’t benefit either side and Monmouth finished fourth (246 points), and Panteg third (247 points).

📍With Cardiff-based TAW having already won the league title, in-form Vale Seconds clinched the second available promotion place.

🍾 In the only match in the division that survived the deluge, Vale bagged 18 points from an emphatic nine-wicket home triumph against Upper Rhondda.

👉 Peter Keay’s Monmouth 1st XI, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, ended 2026 with a decent record of 10 wins and five defeats from 18 league matches following a Division 7 title-winning season in 2025.

ℹ️ Although a disappointing and frustrating finale to this summer, Keay’s side congratulate Corntown-based Vale and TAW on their promotions.

🎉 And Monmouth’s new club record of 417-3 against Penarth Thirds last month - which was set up by Ben Davies’ hard-hitting 190 at the Sports Ground - sits proudly in club history.

👉 Final positions in Division 6, top four: 1 TAW 301 points, 2 Vale Seconds 262 pts, 3 Panteg Seconds 247 pts, 4 Monmouth 246 pts.

ℹ️ Meanwhile, Monmouth Seconds rounded off their Division 12 programme with an eight-wicket defeat in a 20-overs-side match at high-flying Lisvane Fourths.

🙌 But, more importantly, Andrew Dobbie’s Monmouth Seconds retained their status in the division, finishing 13 points and one place above the relegation zone.

🏏 Lisvane picked up a maximum 20-point haul from the reduced overs clash at Cardiff’s Llandaff Fields to pip Monkswood & Panteg Thirds to the second promotion place.

👍 In the only match played in Division 12, Jake Teague (38) and stand-in skipper Gareth Jones (21) provided the bedrock of Monmouth’s 141-7 with an excellent opening partnership of 61.

🤝 Teague cracked four boundaries and two sixes in his rapid 26-ball knock, while Kit Skailes (13), teenager Charlie Mallen (11 not out) and Joe Walton (11) all contributed in Monmouth’s 20-over innings.

👌 After the interval, Joe Walton (1-15) and Gareth Jones (1-28) bagged a wicket a piece for Monmouth.

😔 However, Lisvane powered towards the target.

🥳 Shafiq Hassan (59 not out from 43 balls), Jospeh Sebastian (38) and Steve Chapman (17) all combined to propel Lisvane to their winning total – and spark some jubilant home victory celebrations - in 15.5 overs.

🙌 Despite Monmouth’s defeat, Walton took a catch and there were bowling spells from Aled Jones, Monty Clarke, Skailes, Charlie Mallen, Ieuan Jones and Neil Saunders.

📍Monmouth Seconds concluded their season in seventh place - with seven wins and eight losses from their 18 fixtures.

💥 The captains and players would like to thank Joe Atkinson (1st XI), club chairman Mike Maguire (2nd XI) and Philip Vaughan-Smith (3rd XI) for tremendous support in scoring the three Saturday senior teams during the summer.

Reminder! This Sunday, we have the annual Dave Uttley charity match. Monmouth Cricket Club take on Monmouth Football Club in a t20. A great opportunity to remember a great man who served both clubs so well. Get down and show your support if you can!

1st XI win vs Bay dragons. Comfortable win by 8 wickets. Ben Pilot starred with the ball before Gareth Jones snatched up the tail taking 3 wickets in his 7 ball spell!

In reply, after losing both openers by the time we reached 41, Ben Pilot and Tej Saran steadied the ship and played the situation perfectly to see us home with 8 wickets and 115 balls to spare!

Big game next weekend, with the possibility of promotion on the cards. Weather may be the winner but fingers crossed for some cricket!

2nd XI beat Panteg and Monkswood by 9 wickets.
Monty Clarke took 4/41 in a brilliant spell of leg spin bowling before club legend Dave Teague snapped up 3/18 to see Monkswood bowled out on the penultimate ball.

Jake Teague looked brilliant again for 45, continuing his scintillating form, before Ian Morgan and Dave Teague saw us home with 9 wickets in hand!

Another clinical performance and a big 20 points for our 2s!

3rd XI beat Porth by 8 wickets.
To make it three from three, the 3rd XI completed a comprehensive win over Porth by 8 wickets to win back to back games.

Porth batted first and skipper Theo Minnie took 5/19 from his 8. He was well backed up by Tom Willgoss (3/15) and Steve Vickers who took 1 wicket in a very tidy spell, yet again!

Again, the classy Tom Willgoss scored an unbeaten 75 to see the team home. He was well supported by Craig Morgan (40) and Richard Bowen (36*) to complete the chase with 8 wickets in hand.

It’s great to see the improvement from the 3rd XI recently and it shows with some brilliant results in the recent weeks.
