⚠️ Protecting wildlife at Forfar Loch

ANGUSalive Rangers are working with the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative (SISI) to help protect native wildlife at Forfar Loch following several reported sightings of American mink this year.

American mink are an invasive non-native species which have been breeding in the wild in Scotland since the 1950s, following escapes from fur farms. As carnivores, they can prey on small mammals and ground-nesting birds, which can have an impact on native wildlife.

Two mink traps have now been deployed at Forfar Loch by SISI and the Ranger Service as part of efforts to reduce mink numbers and protect the wildlife that lives around the loch.

If you are visiting Forfar Loch, please do not approach, touch or disturb the traps or the surrounding areas. Please also avoid disturbing any wildlife involved in the work.
