Match report 📝:

Montrose Youth 2-4 Monifieth Atheltic

The boys travelled up the road to Montrose tonight for their first league match of the season.

The team knew it would be a tough test against league and east region champions Montrose Youth, but they more than rose to the challenge.

Every single member of the squad contributed to what was a fully deserved win on the night.

Some fantastic goals from lethal attacking, a determination and grit in defence and midfield, and an unbelievable penalty save that would grace any game all contributed to a fully deserved win on the opening night of the league season.

Big thanks to Montrose Youth 2013’s for a well contested game. We look forward to locking horns again soon.

Well done boys… a perfect start the league campaign 👌

Match report: 📝

Fairmuir v Monifieth Athletic

The team travelled along the road to Fairmuir for their second competitive game of the season in the league cup group stage tonight.

It was a good nights work from the boys overall, albeit the team never really got out of 2nd gear.

Nonetheless, a comprehensive win and some lovely goals scored, with two hat tricks on the night from Matthew Brown & Ethan Longmuir.

Fairmuir Boys - 2013’s contributed plenty to the match tonight and kept working right to the end. We wish them all the best for the season ahead.

On to Sunday now where the team will play Arbroath in their last league cup group game.

Well done boys 🔵⚪️🦁🔴⚫️

Match report 📝

Monifieth Athletic v Lochee United

It was a beautiful Sunday down at Riverview as the Blues kicked off their competitive season in the League Cup against a well‑drilled Lochee United side.

Sunshine, no wind, perfect conditions — even if Monifieth were already carrying a few absentees through injury.

First Half

Monifieth settled quickly, moving the ball with confidence and stitching together some tidy passages of play. The effort and intent were there throughout, but Lochee’s defence stood firm. Organised, physical, and disciplined, they made life difficult and repeatedly shut down the final ball that Monifieth needed to break through.

Half‑time: 0–0

Second Half

The pattern continued after the restart — Monifieth on the front foot, Lochee dangerous enough on the counter to keep things honest. The Blues created more attacking moments, but Lochee carved out a couple of chances of their own in the final third.

The breakthrough for Monifieth finally arrived from a set piece.

A superb corner from Seeno was met by Callum McEwan, who timed his run perfectly and powered a header into the net. A proper striker’s finish and the defining moment in the match.

Before that goal, the Lochee keeper produced a superb point‑blank save from a Matthew Brown effort — the kind of stop that deserved applause from both sides. Ironically, it led to the corner from which Monifieth scored.

Credit to Ryan in the MAFC goal and the entire Monifieth back line. They were disciplined, composed, and fully deserving of a clean sheet in the opening competitive fixture of the season.

Man of the Match: Nairn Peters

Outstanding at left back — composed, energetic, creative, and intelligent in possession. He read the game superbly and contributed massively at both ends of the pitch. A brilliant performance.

Final Score

Monifieth Athletic 1–0 Lochee United

Huge credit to Lochee United 2013s — well organised, competitive, and playing some tidy football of their own. They contributed to a proper contest.

For Monifieth, it’s a winning start, a clean sheet, and three points in the League Cup group stage against the Division 1 newcomers. Plenty more gears to go through, but a steady, confident opening to the season.

Next up: Fairmuir at Graham Street on Tuesday night.

Well done, boys.

The teams first competitive game of the season in the league cup group stage didn’t go ahead as planned last night.

We’d like to wish Forfar Athletic Community Football Club 2013 Blacks all the best for their season ahead.

Focus now shifts to the next league cup game on Sunday where we welcome newcomers to DDYFA 2013 Division 1 Lochee United 2013s down to Riverview.

The team completed their pre-season schedule with a friendly v Dundee United Sports Club at Riverview today.

The boys got the win, but in truth it was a really scrappy, stop / start game.

All the players got plenty of game time to prepare themselves for the “real ball” coming out on Tuesday night when the league cup campaign kicks off away to Forfar.

MOTM today was James Maxwell.

James has made a tremendous impact since joining the club in the summer and today was another calm, composed and assured performance from him at the back. Well done Jambo 👏👏

Thanks to DUSC 2013 for agreeing to the friendly today and best of luck to them for the season ahead.
