Someone comes back after a summer of holidays, barbecues and “I’ll sort it in September” and the first thing they tell me isn’t about their body, it’s that they’ve blown it.
Here’s what I tell every single one of them.
You haven’t lost as much as you think you have.
Week one feels rough, but then you’ll be back in the swing of things.
The harder thing to shift isn’t your fitness. It’s the story you’re telling yourself about what kind of person you are.
That’s a big part of what coaching actually does. It’s not just writing sessions and tracking weights. It’s helping someone start again without punishing themselves for the difficult periods they’ve had.
The people who manage that, who give themselves permission to just begin, are the ones still training when December comes round.
The PT Centre
We help people transform their body, mindset and lifestyle to achieve life changing results The PT Centre has been established since 2012.
Adam Howkins, the founder and owner, has built a facility and team of coaches who go above and beyond to help their clients succeed in getting the results they need. The PT Centre has a high value of excellence when it comes to our clients, from the initial consultation to planning each nutrition and training program, we help create a positive mindset and belief that results are possible and we wo
September doesn’t need to be January 2.0.
Most people approach it that way though.
New plan. New Focus. Maximum effort from day one.
And by mid-October, when the nights get dark and the novelty’s worn off, it looks exactly like January did.
We do things differently at The PT Centre and it could seem pretty unglamorous to be honest.
We pick a small number of things. We do them consistently. We don’t make a big deal out of it.
No crazy extremes. No dramatic changes.
Just the kind of approach that’s still going in December.
For a lot of our clients, that’s never actually happened before.
September works when you set smaller targets that are easier to stay consistent with.
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get a proper plan in place, DM the word BLUEPRINT and we help you set your targets.
Simple and easy to understand
Obviously the details do matter a lot of the time.
But to be honest for most people, they need complex made easy to understand.
Most people think they need to be ready.
“I’ll do it when work calms down.”
“Once things settle, I’ll focus on me.”
“When the kids are back at school, I’ll have more time.”
Now be honest… when was the last time life actually felt like life was less busy and stressful?
When work wasn’t full on?
When everything just magically lined up?
Exactly. It doesn’t happen very often. There’s always going to be a reason not to.
And waiting for that “perfect time” to start? Is why you stay stuck.
Because the reality is;
Life won’t slow down for you.
Work won’t suddenly be stress-free.
The perfect moment doesn’t exist.
You don’t need perfect conditions to start making progress and seeing great results.
You need to learn how to take action despite imperfect conditions.
Because the people who succeed?
They start when life is busy.
They start when work is demanding.
They start even when things aren’t easy.
So stop waiting for a green light.
You don’t need permission to prioritise yourself.

Consistency in nutrition doesn’t come from strict rules.
It comes from an approach that’s realistic enough to sustain for years, not weeks.
Most people who come to us think their problem is knowledge.
It rarely is.
They know what to do at a basic level. What they don’t know is how that applies to their actual life. Their schedule. Their food preferences. Their starting point.
So we spend real time on that early on. How training works. How to build a nutrition approach around what you’ll actually eat. What fat loss really looks like week to week, not the version social media sells you.
Clients tell us this bit alone changes how they see the whole process.
But knowledge was never the thing that derailed them before.
Trying to do everything perfectly was.
Tracking every gram. Weighing everything. One meal off plan and the week feels ruined, so they stop trying altogether.
Fat loss doesn’t need perfect decisions. It needs a plan that you can actually sustain around the work trips, weddings, the family weekend away, the kids birthday party where cake isn’t optional.
Something you can actually keep doing when life is truly demanding. That’s the difference.
DM “PLAN” if you want to see what that actually looks like for you.

You’ll see the weight loss.
The body fat dropped.
The muscle definition.
But you won’t see what really changed.
The parent who has more energy for their kids than they’ve had in years.
The business owner who’s finally operating at the level they know they’re capable of.
The person who stopped waiting to feel like themselves again.
At The PT Centre, we see both sides of that change every single day.
The physical results matter.
We work hard for them and we’re proud of them.
But what they really achieve is more significant.
More confidence in how you carry yourself.
Stronger in the gym and in everything outside it.
A sense of control over the part of your life that kept slipping.
The momentum that makes everything else feel more manageable.
That’s what 14 years of this work has shown us.
Like an iceberg, most people only see what’s on the surface.
What we understand is what’s happening underneath the water.
When I reflect on 17 years as a personal trainer and think about the clients who achieve truly life changing results, they all have one thing in common.
They become the type of person who;
Trains regularly
Eats healthy nutritious food
Walks and moves their body regularly
Plans ahead
Is organised
Is conscious about their decisions
Sets goals
Thinks positively
Because your identity matters more than you think.
If you want to change your circumstances, you have to change how you think.
Everything we do is built on evidence. The way sessions are structured, how nutrition plans are put together and the accountability.
But evidence-based doesn’t mean identical for everyone.
The person in front of me at 6am with a dodgy shoulder and three kids and a job that’s incredibly stressful and demanding needs something different to the person next to them who’s been training for 2 years and is ready to push harder.
That’s the part that takes experience, not just qualifications. Knowing when to adapt, when to hold the standard, and how to make a programme work for the actual person doing it rather than the ideal version of them.
14 years and 1000s of personal training sessions later, that combination is what we bring every single day.

Last week I gave a client a single coaching cue that changed the way a movement felt for them.
One cue. Something I noticed watching them work, something that took 2 seconds to say.
They’d been training for 8 months. The movement had been fine. But fine isn’t the standard.
That’s the difference between a coach watching you and a programme you follow on your own. The programme doesn’t see what I see. It doesn’t notice the small thing that, corrected early, means the difference between a plateau and a breakthrough 6 months from now.
The details are why we’re different.
