🧭 We Don’t Need to Know
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to have the answer.
🤔 What should I do next?
😕 Is this the right decision?
🧐 Where is this going?
But life rarely gives us clear answers before we act. Sometimes the next step is enough.
Clarity comes from action, not before it.

🤸🏻♀️ Change Is Messy
It’s easy to think of change as a before and after. However, it’s much messier in reality.
You can want something to change and still find the process difficult.
For example:
🏠 Changes in living situation
💼 Changes in in work
🏋️ Changes in training/sporting situations
❤️ Changes in relationships
🧠 Changes in yourself
Two things can be true at the same time.
Excitement and uncertainty can exist together.
You can know you’ve made the right decision and still miss what you’re leaving behind.
Feeling the ‘messy middle’ of these changes isn’t an outlier, it’s the norm.
It’s where we adapt, learn and evolve ready for what’s coming next.

🧠 Too Much Choice
We live in a world with more options than ever. And that’s often a problem.
🏋️ Athletes and coaches can be overwhelmed by endless training methods, exercises, metrics and opinions.
🛋️ I’m currently being overwhelmed by trying to pick a new sofa.
📱 And how does anyone decide what to watch tonight?
More choice doesn’t always make decisions easier. Sometimes it makes it harder to choose at all.
📦 David Epstein’s book Inside the Box explores how constraints can actually help creativity and problem-solving.
The same applies to coaching.
Good coaching isn’t about giving more options.
It’s about narrowing the field, identifying what matters now, and creating enough constraint to allow action.
👨🏻🏫 More isn’t always better. Sometimes, less gives us room to move.

📦 Some of the box jump variations I’ve been sprinkling in recently:
1️⃣ Augmented eccentric
2️⃣ 2-step approach leap
3️⃣ Straight leg landing
👨🏻🏫 Box jump variations allow me to keep some jump volume in the gym and save the high eccentric demands of landing for other track and plyo sessions.
🥳 Each of these is targeting a slightly different quality but the main reason for me is just the slightly novelty!
