Equipped powerlifting. What’s it all about?
That truth is it’s not easy!
But it’s fun. Training out of your kit involves a wide variety of lift variations and the use of accommodating resistance.
Training in kit requires thick skin. Not just to handle the pain of the kit but to handle the emotional ups and downs of the 50/50 success in training sessions.
It’s extremely technical and not everyone understands and adapts to the nuances of the equipment. Being a good raw lifter doesn’t mean you’re going to be a good equipped lifter. I actually only know maybe 4 or 5 lifters that are world class in both disciplines.
Training for equipped powerlifting won’t necessarily make you a stronger raw lifter. As I said previously we use a lot of variation and accommodation. This is designed to manipulate the strength curve in order to adapt to the stimulus of the equipment.
The good parts…
You don’t need the equipment to train to be stronger in it!!!
You don’t need the best and newest equipment to be good at it. My favourite shirt is old af and had been with me through three weight classes. To this day it’s still being used and abused and will likely help a friend win the 2026 !
If you can deal physical pain, emotional rollercoaster and have the patience to work out the kit it’s fu***ng awesome fun!!!!

As a coach I understand what it takes to get the best from those I work with. There is no cookie cutter approach to guiding an athlete. We are all different, and my approach to programming and managing my athletes is driven by this.

7 British championship titles, several national records, and a bunch of British team selections.
It’s been a crazy few months. Juggling preps for athletes, and myself, has been a task. But so worth it for the outcome.
I’m super proud of everything that has been achieved by these members of our crew already this year.
Big things still to come!

Massive massive day for the squad today. Three new lifters brought into the community at just 14 and 15. One smashing PB’s on all three lifts. Another back on the platform after a broken leg and a three year hiatus. Each and every one conducted themselves professionally and with humility. They all represented the club and we couldn’t be more proud of them. Special gratitude to , and for helping warm up our lifters. I’d also like to give a special mention to .181 for stepping up to run the platform at short notice. The event simply couldn’t have happened without him sacrificing his Sunday to keep the lifters safe.
