Meet the Team: Clare
My why at the beginning: I never in a million years imagined I would be training to swim the English Channel. Living with EDS a connective tissue disorder meant that for a long time, I never believed my body would be capable of something like this. But I met our team, 6 other strong women. Who helped me stop listening to the voice that told me what I couldn’t do, and started believing in what I could.
My why now is: I’m doing this for my two beautiful daughters. I want them knowing that we are so much more than our youth, our beauty, or what our bodies look like. I want them to see that strength isn’t about having a perfect body or an easy journey it’s about courage, resilience and believing in yourself when life tells you to give up. I want them to know that their dreams are worth chasing. That limitations don’t have to become their identity. That sometimes the biggest barrier standing between us and what we want is simply the belief that we aren’t capable. So this swim is for them. To show them that self-belief is powerful, resilience is stronger than fear, and sometimes you have to dare to dream.

Meet the Team: Kat
My why at the beginning: Bluetits 1 did it and planted the seed. Maybe it was FOMO, but I remember sitting on the steps at Aberavon with Carrie and thinking I reckon we could do that. Makes me sound super cocky! I couldn’t even swim front crawl at the time but knew we had the drive
My why now is: Pretty much the same - because I can! I love a challenge and adventure and this ticks all the boxes! Plus we all get to show our children that normal people can do incredible things too. Although not sure which bit of normal we are 😂

Meet the Team: Victoria
My why at the beginning: I never felt really good at anything. When I heard that the Bluetits were looking to start another team I was definitely going though a “midlife muddle” (that’s another story in itself).
But I started thinking why not? Could I actually be brave enough to put myself forward for something that seemed so crazy?
My why now is: hopefully inspiring other midlife muddlers to try something. Not because they’re awesome at it. But because they feel awesome doing it.

This time next year - August Bank Holiday 2027 - will be the start of our English Channel crossing window so of course we spent the afternoon together planning and reflecting.
We’ve already come such a long way since we got chosen to be Bluetit 5 around 18 months ago (➡️) and are excited and terrified in equal measure about what the year ahead will bring.
Stay tuned this week to find out a bit more about each of us and see how we’re all getting on individually.
In the meantime - a huge shout out to everyone following and sharing our journey. Thanks for being with us!
Much love,
BT5 💙❤️💛

The real countdown to swimming the channel begins! We now officially have less than a year until our window opens! 😬😬😬
However, wouldn't want to do this with any other team. Some of us have been friends for nearly 30 years, some of us have been friends for just over 2 years, but it feels like forever! We now regularly share toilet habits, are happy to shout "just ignore the jellyfish and get in water!!!" and know when just to let someone have a nap on the floor covered in dry robes. Big love to you girls!!!
Want to say a big thank you to our supporters too. Team Aberavon are the best! And to our families too! Whatever event or plan we have, you show up and support. We are forever grateful to you all.
Also couldn't forget our incredible coach Makala Jones and The Bluetits Chill Swimmers for giving us this amazing opportunity. You inspire us, and also make us question our life choices on a regular basis!
Our fundraising journey still continues. We've got another fundraising evening coming up in just three weeks! More info here or drop us a message if you want to join us 🙂
