The 2026 cricket season may now be done and dusted, but we still have plenty of club sponsors who are owed a massive thank you as we begin our off season.

2ND XI 2026 SEASON REVIEW

A cracking season for our 2nd XI, who in the end stormed to the Division 9 title by a 74-point margin.

Coming out of the gates fast with a 10-wicket win away at Allington 2s, the 2nds signalled their intentions early by winning their first six matches of the season. Although their subsequent clash with main title rivals Swindon Thalaivas ended in a bitterly disappointing 2-wicket defeat, this did little to derail their momentum heading into the rest of the season. Bouncing straight back with an emphatic 9-wicket win away at Avebury 3s, the 2s then embarked on a nine-match winning streak. This was enough to see them romp home to the league title, with the deal being sealed with two games to spare during another dominant win at home to Bathford 2s.

Absolutely no denying that it was the bowlers who were the spearhead for the 2s this year, who finished the season with the second highest number of bowling bonus points in entire Wiltshire league. Youngster Finley Burns finished as leading wicket taker with 30, whilst Matt Hunt and Chris Singh finished not far behind with 27 each. Big shout out to Yugant Bhatt, who with 19 wickets to his name finished with the best bowling average in the division at 11.79, as well as to opener Dimithu Munasinghe, who finished with the best economy in the division at 2.52.

The batters more than played their part as well, with opening bat Steve Rendell finishing as far and away the team's leading run scorer with 470 runs. A great season also for youngster Max Noyes, who in a breakout year finished with 247 runs including a first senior league fifty. Solid contributions from plenty of other players, with Dan Carpenter (209), Ross Holbrook (194) and Josh Keatley (178) all finishing the campaign with averages over 50, whilst Yugant Bhatt (189) and skipper Matt Cooper (187) also chipped with several solid and crucial knocks throughout the year.

A brilliant effort from all involved this year. Fantastic to see the team bounce back in style after a disappointing 2025. Hopefully once the coming winter is out of the way the 2nd XI will be ready to go again and reach even bigger hights in 2027...

What a success the fifth edition of our annual six-a-side competition was. Another cracking day under the sun saw seven sides go head to head in a thrilling day full of some cracking games.

A massive congratulations to Rough Cider, who finished up as this year’s winners. A big thanks to all the teams, as well as to all the volunteers from within the club who helped mucked in with jobs like umpiring, scoring, cooking, manning the bar etc.

The Mavericks played their final festival of the year today up at Malmesbury Cricket Club.

Thanks to Malmesbury for hosting us, a fantastic way to finish up 2026 for the ladies section.

🏏Malmesbury women were delighted to host Corsham, Tetbury, Melksham and Sherston to our ground today. We got 4 hours of games under our belts on a beautiful hot day!

🏏Pretty sure every team won at least one game, and we were all winners with the weather and getting one final festival in for the year!

🏏Thank you to the visiting teams, the donations and to the helpers today. A lot of bacon was devoured!

3RD XI SEASON REVIEW 2026

A fantastic season for our 3rd XI, who in their fourth year playing league cricket secured a first ever league title by winning WCCL Division 11.

Coming into the season with a strong and experienced squad, the 3s set out their stall early by winning their first three completed in fixtures in comprehensive fashion. A couple of defeats during June prevented them from running away with top spot, including a narrow defeat to main title rivals Sherston Magna. Following that was a crucial fixture against Westbury 3s at home which saw them fall behind after the visitors racked up a massive first innings total of 274-6. However a remarkable effort with the bat saw the 3s chase down their target with an over to spare, and from then on the team never really looked back, embarking on a six game winning streak to put them in pole position heading into the final couple of weeks. Despite finishing the season with a defeat and a rain-off, in the end the 3s were able to claim a much deserved title triumph, finishing 20 points clear of second place Westbury.

Absolutely no denying that Tim Edwards was the star of the show with the bat. He finished a stunning season with the bat with 828 runs to his name (459 runs ahead of the next highest scoring player in Div 11!) at an average of 118.3 including 4 hundreds. Another player who enjoyed a tidy season was Tony “The Butcher” Reeves, who chipped in 308 runs across the season including a top score of 83.

An experienced bowling attack regularly did the business throughout the season, with veterans Chris Long and Tony Trotman finishing the campaign with 17 wickets each. Longy also boasts with the second best economy rate in the league at 2.68, whilst Tom Watling also proved to be a tricky bowler to score runs off, ending the season with a solid economy of 3.46.

Well done to everyone featured in these stats. All in all a fantastic 2026 for the 3rd XI which has seen them do the entire club proud. Hopefully 2027 will see them continue their winning habit and remain a team to be reckoned with…

A massive congratulations to our very own Matt Graham who, in his first season as part of Melksham CC, has won our 2026 Fantasy League competition.

Having been in or around the top of the table for most of the season, Matt finished on 7796 points, just 20 points ahead of his compatriot Ethan Smith in second place.

A big thank to all the club members who took in this year’s fantasy league. Looking forward to seeing the competition returning hopefully better than ever in 2027…

With all 3 teams seeing their fixtures rained off on the final day, the 2026 WCCL season is now officially complete.

And what a season it has been!

The 1st XI narrowly miss on promotion to WEPL after a thrilling first season in Division 1. In the end they finished up 7 points short of top spot, with Bishops Cannings and Winsley the ones to pip us to promotion. Obviously bitterly disappointing come up short by such a small margin, but nonetheless a great effort from the 1st team to come straight into the Division and finish 3rd. Congratulations to both Cannings and Winsley on achieving promotion. Hopefully we will come back even stronger next year ready to take that extra step…

For the 2nd XI meanwhile it was a very comprehensive title win, finishing as runaway winners in Division 9 by a handsome 74-point margin. Been a fantastic effort from the 2s to bounce straight back after struggling during the 2025 campaign. Hopefully they will be able to keep this momentum going into 2027…

And finally the 3rd XI of course secured a league double for the club after finishing as top dogs in Division 11. Again another fantastic effort from all involved and no doubt more to come next season…

It has been a fantastic couple of seasons, with the 1st XI’s Div 2 title triumph in 2025 meaning that all three of our league sides have now won silverware over the last 12 months.

Fingers crossed we won’t be stopping there…

A massive well done to everyone who turned out for us in 2026. Looking forward to going again in 2027…
