🔴⚫️ FULL MATCH REPORT … Meden Vale Colts 5-3 Keyworth United 🔴⚫️

Vale overturn a 2 goal deficit to take all 3 points in a true game of two halves, at home to Keyworth United.

Keyworth had the better of the opening exchanges, and it wasn’t long before the visitors found the net. 8th minute, Keyworth No.5 heads home from a corner. 0-1.

Charlie Dando forced into his first of many notable stops on the day, as an opposition forward looked certain to double their advantage with a 1v1, but for a fine stop from the Vale keeper, continuing his excellent start to the season.

On the half hour mark, the away side extended their lead. 0-2.

George Camps replaces Kieran Darby.

Having been penned back for the majority of the first half, and been limited to few chances in front of goal, Vale are afforded a lifeline through a penalty in the dying moments of the half. Tyler Whyle steps up confidently and finds the bottom right corner on his return to action, following his suspension on opening day. HT 1-2.

It went without saying that performance levels needed to drastically improve in the second period if the hosts wanted any chance at completing the comeback and keeping their unbeaten home run intact. Tactical change sees Tyler Whyle move out to the wing, Josh Brentnall moving to No.9.

Vale looked a completely different side right from the off, winning more first and second balls, pressing higher up the field and chances followed. 50th minute, a stroke of luck brings Vale level. Jake Smith drives down the left flank, before swinging a cross deep into the opposition box that ends up dipping just in time to nestle in the side netting at the back post. 2-2.

Jake Smith is replaced by Archie Ward.

Keyworth look shell shocked, and Vale maintained their forward pressure. 60th minute, George Camps slides a perfectly weighted ball in behind the opposition defence, Tyler Whyle on hand to slot it in at the near post, putting Vale infront with his second of the afternoon. 3-2.

Ellis Cave replaces Thomas Sharpe

73rd minute, Keyworth catch Vale on the break, a cross held up at the back post, nodded back to their No.9, who controlled well before smashing home to bring us level once more. 3-3.

80th minute, having already played a pivotal role in turning the game on its head, George camps puts a strong challenge in deep inside the Keyworth half that Archie Ward manages to keep in play on the byline. Ward cuts back to the penalty spot, where Ellis Cave struck with real conviction, almost taking the net out as he put Vale back in the driving seat. 4-3.

85th minute, Ellis Cave’s free kick is flicked on by Josh Brentnall before reaching Charlie Broadhead. The Vale No.5 coolly flicks the ball into his own path, steadying himself before poking home through the legs of the Keyworth keeper, capping off another top individual performance and putting the game to bed.

Declan Bacon replaces Josh Brentnall.

One way traffic from here on out. Archie Ward caught marginally offside before finding the back of the net, whilst Dec Bacon turned numerous defenders inside out on the edge of the area, before seeing his effort blocked in the final moments. FT 5-3.

Lessons learned from the first half, but an unbelievable amount of togetherness, desire and quality saw us overcome adversity, not for the first time this season. Next time out we face Ruddington village, away, Saturday 5th September.
