TRAINING DAY š§¤
Yesterdayās session was focused around speed of movement across the goal and how quickly we can get ourselves into position to make the next action.
A big focus on using the crossover step when we need to cover bigger distances quickly, rather than taking too many small steps and arriving late.
Quick feet arenāt just about moving fast. Itās about using the right movement at the right time and arriving set.
A good sharp session two days out from matchday.

Not every mistake ends in a goal.
When I analyse games with the goalkeepers I mentor, Iām not just looking at saves, goals conceded or obvious mistakes.
Iām looking for the small details that havenāt cost them yet.
Positioning. Decision making. Movement. Starting positions. What could happen next.
Because if we can identify those moments now, we can work on them before they become the reason a goal goes in.
Sometimes the most valuable clips are the ones where the goalkeeper doesnāt even touch the ball.
Watch. Understand. Improve. š§¤

Away day, but the work doesnāt stop š§¤š»
On the team bus heading down for tomorrowās game, getting through match clips and reports for the keepers I work with.
This is a massive part of the mentorship for me. Not just watching whether a save was made or a goal went in ā but looking at positioning, decision making, movement and understanding why things happened.
Then we can take those points into the next training session and game.
Play. Review. Understand. Improve. šš§¤

CLIENT REVIEW š
Confidence changes everything. š§¤
After just one Zoom call, Miaās dad sent me this message.
Mia is an aspiring Northern Ireland academy goalkeeper with loads of potential. But like so many young goalkeepers, the biggest gains werenāt technicalā¦
They were mental.
Sometimes all it takes is someone whoās been there to help you understand the game, build confidence, and give you a clear plan moving forward.
Thatās exactly what Christy Pym Mentorship is about.
Thank you to Miaās family for trusting me and allowing me to share their feedback. It means a lot. š
If youāre a young goalkeeperāor a parent of oneāand youād like to find out how the mentorship works, just drop me a message. š©

Most young goalkeepers trainā¦
Very few compete.
The biggest difference I see between young goalkeepers and professionals isnāt talent.
Itās their mentality.
Every repetition has a purpose.
Every mistake is a chance to learn.
Every session is an opportunity to prove they belong.
These are 8 lessons I wish Iād truly understood when I was 17.
Most goalkeepers spend too much time worrying about their spread shapeā¦
When in reality, the save has often been decided before they even get into it.
The biggest difference I see isnāt technique.
Itās decision-making.
ā”ļø Is the striker in control?
ā”ļø Can you get close enough to make a block?
ā”ļø Or do you need to narrow the angle and stay patient?
Get those decisions right and your 1v1 success rate will improve dramatically.
Technique is importantā¦
But only after youāve made the right decision.
What part of 1v1s do you find most difficult as a goalkeeper? šš§¤
When I trained with Pierce Charles during the Northern Ireland camps, one thing stood out more than anything elseā¦
It wasnāt the spectacular saves.
It was how calm and reliable he was every time the ball came to him.
Every pass had a purpose.
The weight of pass was excellent.
His decision making was simple, quick and effective.
Modern goalkeeping isnāt about trying to play like a midfielder.
Itās about being someone your teammates trust when they give you the ball.
Can you play the right pass?
Can you recognise when to play short or long?
Can you stay composed under pressure?
Those little details make a huge difference.

One week into launching my goalkeeper mentorship, and one thing has become really clear⦠š§¤
Every goalkeeper Iāve worked with has had different technical areas they want to improve.
But the one thing that keeps coming up is confidence.
As goalkeepers, confidence can change so quickly. One mistake, one opinion or one bad game can suddenly make you question yourself.
Thatās why my mentorship isnāt just about making better saves or improving distribution. Itās about helping young goalkeepers build confidence, become more resilient and learn how to deal with the highs and lows that come with playing in goal.
Because the best goalkeepers arenāt the ones who never make mistakes.
Theyāre the ones who know how to respond to them.
If youāre a young goalkeeper, or youāre the parent of one, and youād like that sort of support, drop me a DM with āGKā and letās book a free discovery call. ā½š§¤
