Congratulations to Master of Sport Directorship graduate Khalida Popal, a football pioneer and campaigner who achieved her graduation dream while continuing her global fight for greater equality and inclusion for women in sport.

As former captain and founding member of the Afghanistan women's national team, she has become one of the most influential voices in global football, campaigning for gender equality, inclusion and opportunities for refugee communities.

Reflecting on this milestone, Khalida said: “It’s like scoring the winning goal at the last minute after a long journey. I’m looking forward to celebrating because it’s taken a long time, but I deserve to be happy and celebrate. It was the best goal of my life”.

We're delighted to be hosting round 2 of the Lloyds National Track Series at the National Cycling Centre later this year.

Manchester will welcome the country’s top emerging and elite riders on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December.

Sugden Sports Centre will close at 6pm today (Wednesday 4th March). We aim to open as normal from tomorrow. Customers are welcome to visit Manchester Aquatics Centre this evening, due to the early closure. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

March will see Manchester and the National Basketball Performance Centre Belle Vue Leisure Centre host two fantastic FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers.

Great Britain play Austria on Satuday 14th March and on Tuesday 17th March Great Britain will play Norway. Tip off at 7pm.

The fantastic line up includes Olympians Katie Archibald, Jessica Roberts, Charlie Tanfield and Commonwealth gold medallist Anna Morris. In a strong para cycling line up, we have Ben Wood from ESV Manchester.
