At Saturday's match against Tividale, we collected donations in support of the Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank.
The collection was a huge success, and we'd like to thank all supporters who donated. We received a huge amount of food, which we'll deliver to the foodbank early next week.

The Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank provide a vital service to our community, and we're delighted that so many of our supporters were able to contribute.

In addition, every member of our playing and coaching staff contributed very generously - with special thanks to Scott Johnston, who donated ten individual packs made up for families - each containing a blanket, baby wipes, toothpaste & toothbrush, biscuits, juice, water, shower gel and coffee - a lovely gesture that will be hugely appreciated.

This picture below shows donations before 2pm. By the end of the afternoon we'd received several times more food and other items requested by the Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank.

Our next community initiative comes next Saturday at Chorlton Pride.

Good afternoon! Yesterday we won 3-2 against Tividale.

West went behind after fifteen minutes and trailed at the half time break. Sam Dickov got the equaliser on the hour mark but West went behind again 10 minutes later from the penalty spot.

West refused to be beaten and pushed hard for an equaliser, which eventually came in the 87th minute when Markell Foulds found space in the box and levelled the scores. The winning goal came in the 94th minute when Max Leonard was fouled in the area, dusted himself down and converted the penalty to complete a memorable comeback.

We're delighted to announce the signing of winger Billy Hasler-Cregg.

The 29-year-old started at Burnley's Academy, before turning professional at Rochdale in 2015. He's since represented Bamber Bridge, Stalybridge Celtic, Congleton Town and Ramsbottom United among others, and joins West after two goals in six appearances for Irlam this season, both coming in the 3-0 FA Cup win at Hallam last month.

Manager Lee Rick told us, "Billy's been a target for us for a while, so we’re really pleased to finally add him to the group.

He brings real quality in the final third and we’re hoping he can contribute with goals and assists. He’s very direct, plays with a lot of energy and I’m sure he’ll be someone who gets the fans off their seats.

He’s brings a wealth of experience, which will be really important for the group. He’s someone who can support the lads on and off the pitch, make a positive impact around the dressing room and lead by example."

Billy is available for tomorrow's visit of Tividale.

‼️Collection for Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank

A Bank Holiday weekend on the road brought mixed fortunes for West, with assistant Lewis Reilly taking charge of a 4-0 dismantling of Darlaston Town on Saturday, before hopes of an extended unbeaten run were dashed at Northwich Victoria on Monday.

Victor Abadaki's late red card - on his 100th West appearance - means he'll sit out the rest of September, but is available to face Tividale before his suspension kicks in.

The Dale - one of a selection of new sides we'll face for the first time in the Midland League this campaign - were founded in 1954 as the senior branch of Tividale Hall Youth Club and have long been part of the Midlands non-league furniture, playing their football at The Beeches near Dudley. Their honours include the Midland Football Alliance title in 2013/14, which earned a brief spell in the Northern Premier League, along with West Midlands League Premier Division wins in 2010/11 and 2018/19.

Their 1976/77 FA Cup run featured in the bestselling book Journey to Wembley, which followed that season's competition from the qualifying rounds, sticking with the winners of each tie. Though commonplace for groundhoppers and YouTubers alike now, the book is considered the first of its kind - Tividale's run that season saw them defeat Hinckley Town and Oldbury United, before succumbing to Telford United in the 2nd Qualifying Round.

Recent times have been tougher, and Tividale spent last season battling near the foot of the Midland League Premier - finishing only a point above the relegation zone - and have started this season in similar form. Their first six games in league and cup produced 2 goals for, 24 against, and consecutive losses. Bank Holiday Monday brought some joy returning from high flying Sutton United with a 4-3 win - but they come to Brookburn Road still rooted to the bottom of the table.

In support of Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank, we'll have a stall near the main entrance for supporters to donate any food items they are able to donate.

The foodbank urgently need tinned fruit, tinned custard, long-life fruit juice and coffee, and you can read their full shopping list HERE.

We entirely appreciate that not everybody will be in a position to make a donation - but anything that can be offered will be hugely appreciated.

We round off a busy Bank Holiday weekend on Monday with a trip to Northwich Victoria.

The Vics are playing their football at Runcorn Linnets’ Apec Taxis Stadium, which is a significant location in West’s history.

It was there that West last lifted a piece of silverware, after a 1-0 victory over Abbey Hey saw us take the 2012/13 NWCFL Division One Trophy thanks to a Lee Makin goal. There have been less celebratory visits to this ground since then though, as West have fallen to 6-0 and 7-0 losses when playing the landlords of Monday’s opponents.

The Vics - otherwise known as the Trickies, the Victorians and the Salt Men - have got the better of West across the seven meetings between the sides to date, with four wins to West’s two. West’s last victory in this fixture was a famous 3-2 away win in the 2022/23 FA Cup Preliminary Round, courtesy of an 87th minute Curtis Miller goal.

We make the journey to Runcorn following a comfortable 4-0 win at Darlaston Town on Saturday thanks to a Joe Berks hat-trick. That win moved West up to 3rd in the table, albeit with two more games played than most other sides. Monday’s hosts will also be buoyed by a strong start to the season. They remain unbeaten in the league and claimed an eye-catching win over Bootle in an FA Cup replay last week. They were tested by Abbey Hulton on Saturday though, and found themselves 2-0 down at half time, as well as being 3-2 down on the 85th minute before going on to win 5-3 to keep their unbeaten record in tact.

We have our own club record to maintain though, as we will look to continue our 100% winning run in away matches that have taken place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

In terms of getting to Monday’s game, the nearest train station is Runcorn East which is just under a mile away. There is a good sized car park onsite for those driving, but don't forget to pay the toll charge for the Mersey Gateway Bridge if you are travelling that way into Runcorn. The nearby Creamfields festival is also finishing on Sunday and so there may well be more traffic coming away from the area on Monday.
