Fifty years after Seve Ballesteros announced himself to the world at Royal Birkdale, Spanish rising star Ángel Ayora will mark the anniversary by making his Open Championship debut in a series of looks inspired by defining moments from Ballesteros’ career.

The 21-year-old will wear SEVE Collection throughout The 154th Open, including tributes to the yellow and brown look Seve wore in 1976 and the white and navy “Seve Sunday” style he made famous at St Andrews in 1984.

In 1976, a largely unknown 19-year-old Ballesteros captivated the galleries at Royal Birkdale with the fearless and imaginative golf that would come to define his career.

After leading by two shots through 54 holes, he finished joint runner-up behind Johnny Miller. At the final hole, Seve produced one of the Championship’s most memorable shots: an audacious chip-and-run between the bunkers guarding the 18th green, followed by a birdie putt to secure a share of second place with Jack Nicklaus.

Seve had arrived.

He would go on to win The Open three times, in 1979, 1984 and 1988, but Royal Birkdale was where a global audience first discovered one of golf’s most charismatic and influential figures.

Half a century later, Ayora will begin his own Open journey at the same venue.

The Spaniard recorded ten top-ten finishes during his rookie season on the DP World Tour – more than any other player – and finished 20th in the Race to Dubai rankings. He has been managed by Javier Ballesteros, Seve's eldest son, since turning professional in 2023 and became the first golfer to wear SEVE Collection.

“Playing in my first Open Championship is something I have worked towards and dreamed about for a long time,” said Ayora. “To make my debut at Royal Birkdale, where Seve first showed the world what made him so special, makes it even more meaningful.

"I am proud to wear SEVE Collection throughout the week and to help celebrate everything he achieved and continues to represent for Spanish golf.”

SEVE Collection connects modern performance apparel with the moments that shaped one of golf's greatest figures.

Two of the week's looks stand out. On Friday, Ayora will wear a Lemon Drop polo with Chestnut Brown trousers, reimagining the yellow-and-brown outfit Ballesteros wore during that 1976 week. For Sunday's final round, he switches to Emerson White with navy trousers and sweater, a modern take on the "Seve Sunday" look Ballesteros wore to win the Claret Jug at St Andrews in 1984.

For SEVE Collection, the anniversary is about more than recreating colours from the archive, it is about the stories behind them, and the courage and individuality Seve brought to the game.

Held across three days in North Yorkshire, the inaugural Three Peaks Golf Festival festival brought together Bentham Golf Course, Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club and Skipton Golf Club, giving competitors the opportunity to play three distinctive courses while enjoying everything the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

Over the three days, 172 players competed in a four-ball better-ball format, with daily prizes awarded before the overall festival champions were crowned following the final round at Skipton Golf Club.

John Marshall, operations director at Wenningdale Escapes and Bentham Golf Course comments: "We knew the festival had great potential, not only because of the quality of the three courses, but because it offered golfers the rare opportunity to play them all as part of one event. The response has exceeded our expectations. The tournament generated more than £30,000 for the participating courses and brought valuable business to the local area. It's been fantastic to see the wider community benefit from the event.

"We're already looking forward to welcoming golfers back for our mixed pairs festival in September, as well as an exciting programme of events planned for next year. Watch this space!"

The Three Peaks Golf Festival will return this September with a mixed pairs competition before an expanded programme of events throughout 2027. The organisers hope the festival will continue to establish itself as a fixture in the Yorkshire golfing calendar, encouraging visitors to discover the region's courses, hospitality and surrounding attractions: https://www.3peaksgolf.co.uk
