English Football's Only Victoria Cross 🎖️

Remembering Donald Simpson-Bell - who played for Crystal Palace and Newcastle United as an amateur before signing professional papers for Bradford Park Avenue ⚽

He was one of the first professional footballers to voluntarily enlist and would receive the highest military honour in 1916 for destroying an enemy machine gun during the Battle of the Somme.

His life and this act of bravery are commemorated alongside all those that gave their life for this country in our Match Gallery.
