Can Manchester United be successful again by trying to bring the glory days back on the cheap?

Andrey Santos for 50M to Man Utd from Chelsea confirms what we knew already.

INEOS are unable and unwilling to compete for proven elite talent like Elliot Anderson who joined Man City for a record breaking 116M.

We can’t even afford to compete with Spurs by gambling on big salaries for the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

We are a club that now relies on turning shrewd signings into success stories. Santos is a player who wasn’t a regular starter for Chelsea, who signed him for just 15M and are cashing out for a huge profit.

Santos and fellow Brazilian Ederson, who’s lined up for 38M, are going to be the midfield partners for Kobbie Mainoo.

Fans are still calling for a marquee signing. But I’m not convinced there will be one. The club are going to rely on Michael Carrick continuing to perform miracles.

History shows that the best teams are the best teams because they buy the best players. But the owners of Manchester United believe they can do it differently.
