U15 Girls League Cup run continues!
Back at Kingsbrook Road for their League Cup semi-final, the girls welcomed Irby CC, who had travelled almost as far as possible from West Cheshire.
The toss was lost, and WRCC were put into bat - a decision that didn’t seem to fluster the girls, who set about keeping the scoreboard moving and building a competitive total.
A couple of early wickets fell, but the innings stabilised in the middle overs with plenty of boundaries and retirements from Amelia (30*) and Daisy (32*). A late flourish from Sanji (20*) helped push the total into three figures, leaving Irby needing 104 to win.
In reply, Irby’s openers looked confident, matching the required run rate in the opening overs. A first over breakthrough from Daisy gave WRCC the perfect start, but Irby showed impressive batting depth and began to settle before Sanji, Martha and Amelia struck with important wickets in the middle overs.
WRCC maintained their energy in the field and bowled with excellent discipline, conceding just two extras throughout the innings. Irby looked to accelerate towards the end of the chase, but sharp fielding produced crucial run-outs. It was a great effort from the visitors, but they ultimately fell 18 runs short.
Congratulations to the girls! The victory sends the U15 Girls through to the League Cup Final!

Two Wins in Two Days for u9s Eagles
🗓️ Tuesday 7 July
Eagles 🦅 Vs Bowden Vale C.C.
📰🏏 MATCH REPORT🏏📰
The Eagles made it two wins in two days as the team bagged another strong victory tonight - in a very good natured game with Bowden C.C.
Some solid straight batting from Leo along with two maximums and four boundaries from Khalil set the team off to a dominant start.
Alfie scored more than a run a ball - in a tidy debut innings - and batted well with partner Nayan who smashed a big six.
There was no let up for Bowden as Harvey and Daniel swung arms. Runs on both sides of the wicket for Harvey and more than two a ball from Daniel, who clobbered five fours.
James and our captain Adam had the challenge of facing the strongest two bowlers of the opposition - Patrick and Fin who both bowled excellently while on loan for the day! It played out as an even contest. Runs scored with good technique, and a wicket for Patrick.
Whalley Range ended on 303.
Two wickets in the first over from Nayan immediately had Bowden Vale on the back foot.
Khalil also bagged two wickets while Daniel and James took one apiece. Meanwhile, a wicket from Alfie capped a great first time performance from him.
All our bowlers were superb in containing the spirited Bowden batters. And were ably supported in the field with some quality ground fielding.
That said, there was a rare fielding blip which involved Patrick and Fin scoring seven off one ball for Bowden! For the statisticians: there was a wide, they ran two and then got four overthrows.
Despite this, the win was never in doubt. Bowden finished on 231.
Good cricket was played in excellent spirit tonight by both teams - a fantastic evening all round. Well done to all!

Lions Roar in Important Away Win
U15s Lions vs Lindow Lightning (Away): Tuesday 8th July
Lions 123/6; Lindow Lightning 76 all out; Lions won by 47 runs
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Lions made a positive start through a new opening partnership of Dylan and Hashim. We looked comfortable from the outset, punishing anything short and running intelligently between the wickets to build early momentum.
Two quick setbacks, including a close run-out, left the Lions at 30-2, bringing Lakhan to the crease to join Abdul. Much like last week, the pair produced an excellent partnership through the middle overs, combining sensible shot selection with good strike rotation. They steadily rebuilt the innings and guided the Lions to 90 with five overs remaining, laying the foundations for a strong total.
After missing a few earlier chances Lindow responded well in the closing stages, taking wickets at regular intervals and preventing a late surge, but the Lions still posted a competitive 123/6 on a slow wicket.
During the interval, the focus was simple: build pressure from the very first ball. The response from our bowlers was outstanding.
Zayyan set the tone with a spell full of controlled aggression. He struck with the second ball of the innings, trapping their opener lbw with a delivery that was plumb despite the protests, before bowling their number three to leave Lindow reeling at the end of the opening over.
Abdul kept the momentum going, bowling their captain to make it an unbelievable 0-3, and another breakthrough soon had Lindow struggling at 1-4 after just two overs.
Any signs of a Lindow recovery were quickly extinguished as Dylan maintained an attacking and tight line, claiming another wicket to reduce the hosts to 7-5 at the end of the fifth over. A sharp run-out by Hashim and Maxim in the following over made it 11-6, and the contest was effectively decided.
To their credit, Lindow showed character and counter-attacked during the middle overs as the Lions rotated their bowling attack. However, further wickets from Frankie, Hashim and Hannah kept us well on top, reducing Lindow to 54-9 before Dylan returned to claim the final wicket and seal a convincing victory.
A special mention goes to our U13 players – Anas, Fazal and Frankie – who stepped up brilliantly for an important fixture. Their energy, encouragement and fielding made a real contribution to the team's success.
This was another really strong all-round performance from the Lions, showing composure with the bat, tidy fielding and a ruthless edge with the ball. The victory sets up a season finale against Hale Barns next Monday, with a chance to finish top of Division 1. Confidence is high, but nothing will be taken for granted.

U11s begin journey to retain Lancs Cup
Our U11s started another Lancs Cup journey away at Wythenshawe this evening.
On an increasingly warm evening Wythenshawe won the toss and decided to bowl - a favourable outcome for a team who like to defend.
The Range opening pair made a very good start on a slightly hazardous wicket with Dhilan playing powerfully. The middle pairs consolidated with Ed Moors hitting some lovely sixes over midwicket, before the final pair made strong progress with good running and great batting from Zeki.(36 of just 16 balls).
The response from the opposition was committed but wickets fell early thanks to Ed Moors (who got the full an straight memo).
The middle pairs fought well however and at times it felt like a come back was on but some good bowling from Finlay, great catching and fierce fast bowling late on from Billy proved too much as a cluster of wickets fell towards the end.
A comfortable win in the end and certainly the first game I have encountered where a fox on the pitch has halted play!
Urmston away next - most likely to be mid week next week.
Well done lads !!

Convincing U9 Eagles Win at Lindow
🗓️Monday 6 July
U9 Eagles 🦅 Vs Lindow C.C.
📰🏏 MATCH REPORT🏏📰
Our Eagles soared to a convincing first victory at Lindow, with a brilliant all round team effort.
Dhani got us off to a flyer with a crisp six off the first ball. He immediately followed with a powerful strike to the boundary. This and some good running with Finlay laid the platform.
Eddie - our captain - and Ethan built on this with some composed batting. A well watched and controlled leg side paddle from Eddie, and a lovely cover drive from Ethan being their innings highlights.
Adam - who displayed elegant technique at bat - was paired next with Austin, who also batted well. Tasked with helping the team gain quick singles, Austin understood the assignment. The pair kept the momentum, stealing several runs that - by law - should have been dot balls to the keeper!
The wagon wheel ran out of spokes for Aaryan. He dispatched the opposition bowlers to all parts of the ground with some BIG shots. Jimmy ably supported and unleashed a delicious off-drive. More of this next time please Jimmy!
Defending 283, the team were relentless in the field. Early encouragement led by the skipper Eddie was infectious. The players showing support and encouragement to each other is vital to lift spirits and performance. And it showed today.
Twelve wickets from our bowlers and two run outs in the field was an incredible return.
Jimmy, Austin and Aaryan with one each. Eddie, Fin and Dhani each with two. Everyone played their part but pick of the bowlers was Adam with very special figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 1 run.
The bowling performance was supported well by safe hands. Catches from Eddie and Ethan, and a superb caught-and-bowled from Dhani saw Lindow finish well short of the target with 233.
Very well played boys and thanks to the parents who made the trip and showed their support.
