PARENTS: TRY THIS THIS WEEKEND.

Ask your child to:
Stand still.
Listen carefully.
Wait until you've finished speaking.
Follow three instructions.

Then ask:
“Was that easy?”

If the answer was...
😂 NO!
..welcome to the world of teaching young children.

Our Tiger classes practise these skills constantly.

Not with boring drills.

Through games, movement and martial arts activities.

Because before children can learn what's on the page, they need to be able to listen to what's being said.

“I can't do it!”

Five words every parent of a young child knows.

The interesting bit isn't whether they get it right first time.

It's what happens next.

At martial arts, Tigers regularly encounter things they can't immediately do.

A movement that feels awkward.

A sequence they can't remember.

An instruction they missed.

And then...
We try again.

Because sometimes the most important lesson isn't:
“I got it right.”

It's:
“I didn't give up when I got it wrong.”

That's a useful lesson to take into school.

Especially when the worksheet is difficult.

The answer doesn't come straight away.

Or everyone else seems to understand something first.

Martial arts gives young children somewhere safe to practise being a beginner.

Our last Tigers class of the school holidays, and the Tigers were full of energy. We hope they all enjoy going back to school next week, and if they want to burn any extra energy off we’re open as normal next week.

See you all then.

FMAC TIGER REPORT CARD

Forget reading, writing and arithmetic for a minute.

How would your child score on:
👂 Listening: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⏳ Waiting their turn: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🧍 Body control: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📋 Following instructions: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🎯 Staying focused: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

These are skills that matter enormously when children start school.

And unlike a worksheet, our Tigers get to practise them while moving, playing and learning martial arts.

The goal isn't perfection.

It's progress.

One little improvement at a time.

And that's exactly how a Tiger grows.

How long can a 5-year-old concentrate?

Long enough to watch a technique?

Long enough to remember it?

Long enough to copy it?

And long enough to do it again when the instructor changes the exercise?

That's why our Tiger classes don't simply teach punches and kicks.

They constantly give young children small opportunities to practise:
🧠 Concentrating
👂 Listening
👀 Watching
🧍 Controlling their bodies
🔁 Repeating something correctly

Those little moments matter when they get into the classroom.

Because school isn't just about knowing the answer.

Sometimes it's about staying focused long enough to understand the question.

Back to school. Back to focus.

Could your child do this?

Tell them:
“Stand up. Touch your toes. Give me a high five.”

Three instructions.
One after another.
How many did they remember?
😬

At school, children constantly have to process instructions:
“Get your book.”
“Write your name.”
“Turn to page 14.”
“Put your pencil down.”

For a 4–6-year-old, that's a genuine skill.

That's why our Tiger classes deliberately practise listening and following instructions.
And they practise it while moving, playing and having fun.

Because learning to listen doesn't have to feel like learning.

Try the 3-instruction challenge at home tonight.

Then tell us how they did!

Existing Tigers: Let's sharpen those listening skills again this week.

The summer holidays are brilliant.

Late nights. Lazy mornings. Different routines. Lots of fun.

But then September arrives...

And suddenly your little one is expected to:
👂 Listen
🧍 Sit still
👀 Concentrate
👉 Follow instructions
⏳ Wait their turn
That's quite a change.

The good news?

They've already been practising those skills at martial arts.

At FMAC, our Tiger classes give children regular opportunities to listen carefully, wait their turn, follow instructions and control their bodies — all skills that become useful when they walk through the school gates.

So don't wait until the first day of school to restart the routine.

Get back to training.

Get back to focus.

Get ready for school.

Existing Tigers: It's time to get back in the Do Jang!
