We have new Jubilee Cup winners πŸ†
Twelve teams of triples played four rounds of four ends, playing different opponents each time and keeping a cumulative score.
It was a fun afternoon and the weather was perfect.
The triumphant team were Peter Saunders, Matt Baker and Ron Thackray with an impressive score of plus 23.
At the other end of the board were Frank Walker, Steve Nicholls and Simon Ash (minus 18...but don't tell anyone 🀫).

Who will get their name added to the magnificent Jubilee Cup trophy?
12 teams will be fighting it out this afternoon.
Game starts 2pm.
As always, it'll be great to see our lovely spectators watching from the sidelines.

Thanks to Peter Ward for the following report on yesterday's game:
This was our penultimate friendly of the year at Silver End Bowls club.
We took 12 bowlers playing 4 mixed triples, plus Brenda and I as reserves, and Margaret as a cheer leader.
It all started very well, as soon as we arrived most of us were ordering, flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos while we waited to find out the rink order.
They also specially brought in someone to open the bar when they heard we were coming, so those watching tried their best.
We decided to play 18 ends straight through, before coming in for tea.
By the ninth end, rink 3 were 10 to 1 down, rink 4 were 10 to 3 down, rink 6 were 8 to 2 down, only rink 5 had good news being 8 to 4 up and overall 32 to 14 shots down.
Holy Moly I hear you say, but do not despair, Maldon rallied over the next 9 ends, rink 3 brought their deficit down to 26 to 11 against, rink 4, with ladies champion Bobby, Carnival King Jim and novice champion Steve won 17 to 16, winning the last 7 ends.
Rink 5 were never behind with Bob Evans playing his first game for some months, ably supported by Frank and Phil.
On rink 6 again they fought valiantly ending 17 to 13 down winning the last 5 ends, so overall we ended on only 6 shots down, so an excellent result although as usual we won on two and lost on two.
We then went in for tea which consisted of scones, jam, cream, cakes and biscuits, tea and b**r and a small prosecco for the ladies.
Another great afternoon with nice friendly people.

Could your community project make a lasting difference for local people? πŸ’šπŸŒ±

Applications are open until 30 September for Phase 2 of our Where Quality of Life Matters Fund! πŸŽ‰

One of the groups supported through Phase 1 was Maldon Bowling Club - Lawn Bowls, which received £8,550 to reinforce the perimeter of its bowling green. 🏑🌿

The improvements have helped provide a safe playing surface for members and visitors, while also helping to prevent deterioration of the turf. This means the green can continue to be enjoyed by bowlers for years to come.πŸ‘

It's a great example of how funding can help protect and improve important community facilities that bring people together. ❀️

If your group, club, charity or organisation has an idea that could improve quality of life in the Maldon District, now is the perfect time to apply. πŸ’‘πŸ™Œ

Visit our website and search for "Where Quality of Life Matters Fund" to find out more and submit your application. πŸ”ŽπŸ’»

Your project could be the next one making a positive impact in our communities. ✨

Congratulations to John Rawlinson, Competitions Secretary, on successfully organising the many club competitions for this season and for running another superb finals weekend.

John's comments are noted below:

What a fantastic weekend of Club Competition Finals, with brilliant weather and a marvellous atmosphere.

Congratulations to all the competitors, winners and runners up, for giving us some fine bowling to watch.

I would like to thank Barry McDonagh for sorting out the logistics of the weekend's games, an absolute nightmare of a job, and Simon Ash for ensuring that the green was in tip-top condition for our competitors.

Then there were the Umpires Brian and Kevin and the Markers, Dave, Carole, Tony, Barry, Ken, Sheila and Simon and of course thanks to Sarah-Jane for acting as photographer. With their help the Competitors had seamless and exciting games, giving thrills to all the great spectators who turned out to watch the competitions.

A last thank you to the bar staff Derek and Geoff and of course to Cherry for supplying the bacon rolls.

There were many others who helped and I would like to thank you all.

Regards

John

What a weekend!
Day 2 proved to be equally as spectacular as Day 1 with a superb display of bowling talent on the green.
Once again the spectators were treated to an exciting extravaganza, witnessing amazing comebacks and incredibly tight finishes.
We certainly displayed matches worthy of a finals competition.
Well done to all bowlers, winners and runners-up alike.
Thank you to everyone involved in making the whole weekend a great event - a separate post later.

What an absolutely fantastic day of quality bowling.
Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the runners-up.
The matches were tight, and the runners-up gave their opponents a tough game.
Around 50 spectators came to show their support over the day and they were truly entertained by exciting matches.
Thanks to our lovely Cherry Richardson who stepped up to answer an impromptu call for bacon rolls.
Thank you to Simon Ash for preparing the green this morning, with help from Barry McDonagh, John Rawlinson and Peter Saunders.
Well done to Barry and John on the seamless organisation.
Tomorrow we go again.
