🏁 That’s a wrap on the 2026 Maldon 5K Handicap Series!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s series. Across four races, runners of all abilities took on the challenge, supported one another, and helped make the series such a fantastic event.

A huge congratulations to our overall Series Champions - Sarah Dearman and Nick Taylor - and well done to everyone who achieved their own personal goals along the way.

The final results are now available:

🏆 The final Maldon 5K Handicap Series race is almost here!

Our series finale takes place this Thursday 16 July, and there’s still plenty to race for as we round off another fantastic series.

Waiting at the finish are these trophies for our overall Male and Female Series Champions… but who will be taking them home?

Following the cancellation of Race 4, the overall series standings will now be based on each runner’s best three results from the four races in this year’s series.

The current forecast is for another warm evening, although temperatures are expected to be significantly lower than those forecast for Race 4. As always, we’ll continue to monitor conditions ahead of Thursday, and we encourage everyone to arrive well hydrated.

Please don’t race if you’re feeling unwell or struggling with the heat. Water will be available at the finish.

We’ll announce the overall series winners and present the trophies shortly after the race, so please stay around if you can.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday for what promises to be a great finale.

Important Update - Race 4 Cancelled

I am very sorry to let you know that Race 4 of the Maldon 5k Handicap Series, due to take place on Thursday evening, has been cancelled.

This has not been an easy decision. Over the past few days I have been closely monitoring the forecast and reviewing England Athletics guidance relating to running events in hot weather. I have also sought advice regarding the medical provision available for the event.

After carefully considering the forecast conditions, the guidance, and the specific nature of our handicap race format, I have concluded that I cannot be satisfied that the event can proceed safely. As Race Director, I have a responsibility to put the welfare of participants, volunteers and officials first, and therefore believe cancellation is the only responsible course of action.

I fully appreciate that this will be disappointing, particularly for those who have been looking forward to racing and for those currently well placed in the series standings. I share that disappointment. However, I hope you will understand that safety must take priority.

As a consequence of Race 4 being cancelled, the final series standings will now be based on competitors’ best three race scores rather than best four.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. I would also like to thank our volunteers, officials and medical team for their willingness to support the event.

☀️ Hot Weather Advisory – Race 4

Thursday’s race is currently forecast to take place in very warm conditions. Please arrive well hydrated and consider bringing additional fluids for before and after the race.

In line with England Athletics guidance, we would like to remind all participants to:

💧 Drink to thirst
👕 Dress appropriately for the weather
🌳 Keep in the shade where possible before the race
🩺 Ask for medical help if you feel unwell
🤒 Not take part if you have been unwell recently

Please run sensibly and within your limits. If conditions feel more challenging than expected, adjust your pace accordingly. If you feel unwell at any point, stop and seek assistance from the nearest marshal or member of the medical team.

There is no shame in slowing down, walking, or withdrawing from the race if the conditions become too much.

The event team continues to monitor the forecast and will provide further information to participants in the Race 4 reminder email on Tuesday evening.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our collection at Race 3 of the Maldon 5k Handicap Series.

Together, our runners, volunteers and supporters raised £218.77 for St. Luke's Hospice, Basildon following the recent loss of Charli, daughter of Tiptree Road Runners member, Run Leader and Committee Member Steve.

We are also grateful to Tiptree Road Runners, who have matched the amount raised, bringing the total donation to £437.54.

Steve has asked us to pass on his sincere thanks to everyone who contributed. Your generosity and kindness were greatly appreciated and are a reflection of the supportive community that exists around the Maldon 5k.

Thank you for helping us make a difference.
