🚛🚌 DRIVING TEST NERVES?
YOUR CALM & CONFIDENT TEST-DAY GUIDE
Feeling nervous before your LGV or PCV driving test is completely normal. A few simple techniques can help you stay focused and show the examiner the driving you’ve been practising.
🧘 1. BREATHE
Before you start, take a few slow, deep breaths. Give yourself a moment to settle.
🛑 2. DON’T RUSH
Take your time. Observe properly, think ahead and make safe, controlled decisions.
👀 3. FOCUS ON YOUR DRIVING
Try not to worry about what the examiner is writing or thinking. Concentrate on the road and your observations.
🗣️ 4. TALK YOURSELF THROUGH IT
Positive thoughts can help:
“I’ve trained for this.”
“I know what I’m doing.”
“Stay calm and take it one step at a time.”
💪 5. TRUST YOUR TRAINING
You’ve practised these skills with your instructor. The test is your opportunity to demonstrate what you already know.
🔄 6. IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG — RESET
One mistake doesn’t automatically mean you’ve failed. Don’t let one moment affect the rest of your test. Take a breath, refocus and carry on.
⭐ REMEMBER
The examiner isn’t there to catch you out. They’re assessing whether you can drive safely and confidently.
