A really proud day for everyone at Rainey RFC on Saturday as Tom Hutchinson pulled on the Barbarians FC jersey against Banbridge in their Centenary Celebration Game.

It was a great occasion for Tom and his family and a brilliant experience for him to be part of. It was also a proud moment for us as a club to see one of our own representing the Barbarians with the Rainey socks making an appearance on the pitch for the first time in a Baabaa’s game was a nice touch too.

Tom follows in the footsteps of our former club President Bertie McConnell who represented the famous invitational side in 1948 whilst playing his club rugby for Collegians.

Well done Tom — a great achievement and one we’re all delighted to see. 🔴⚫️🏉

A fantastic day at the Interpro, with Olivia Keenan leading the ladies Ulster team while proudly representing Rainey RFC. We are incredibly proud and it’s wonderful to see our players enjoying opportunities like this.

Good luck to Tom Hutchinson today as he starts in the second row for the world famous Barbarian FC against Banbridge as part of the County Down clubs Centenary Celebrations. 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦, 𝗧𝗢𝗠! 👏⚫🔴

Everyone at Rainey RFC is incredibly proud to see Tom Hutchinson selected to represent the World Famous Barbarians.

To wear the famous black and white jersey is one of the greatest honours in rugby, reserved for players who have earned recognition through their talent, commitment and the way they play the game. Tom’s selection is a richly deserved reward for the hard work he has put in over many years.

It is also a proud moment for everyone connected with Rainey RFC, Coleraine RFC and Coleraine Grammar School who have all played a part in Tom’s journey. From the coaches and teammates who have supported Tom throughout his journey, to his parents, Andy and Louise and family who have been behind him every step of the way, this is an achievement the entire club can celebrate.

Tom will line out for the Barbarians against Banbridge RFC this Saturday in a special fixture celebrating Banbridge RFC’s Centenary. It promises to be a fantastic occasion and a fitting celebration of 100 years of rugby at Rifle Park.
