YMCA Whites 1–6 St Annes Purples

It was a real game of two halves for the Whites against St Annes Purples.

The first half belonged to St Annes, who came out strongly and took control of the game. The Whites struggled to find their rhythm and St Annes made the most of their chances, going into half-time with a 5–0 lead.

Despite the scoreline, the Whites kept their heads up and regrouped at half-time. The second half was a completely different game.

The Whites came out with much more energy and determination, putting St Annes under pressure and not giving them any time or space on the ball. The hard work paid off when the Whites got themselves on the scoresheet and continued to push forward.

St Annes did manage to add another goal, but the second-half performance from the Whites was a huge improvement and showed plenty of character after a difficult first half.

Full-time: YMCA Whites 1–6 St Annes Purples.

A tough result, but credit to the Whites for staying together, regrouping at half-time and showing a much better performance in the second half. There’s plenty to take from that second-half display and build on for the next game. Its going to a ling tough season but we keep going and building a better group of footballers!

Another win for the Blues! What a fantastic start to the season it's been. Another hard fought, close game vs West Coast Titans. A very close first half saw the Blues start strong with lots of pressure on the ball, keeping West Coast in their own half for much of the first half. A fast breakaway from our opponents and clinical finish saw us going in at half time 1-0 down.

We regrouped and refocused and battled back, creating some good chances before or resident Ronaldo scored a 30 years free kick. Ben channeled his Portuguese idols free kick prowess to thump a free kick over the keepers head. The rest of the second half was hard fought with both teams having chances to win. With time ticking away we kept the pressure on winning a corner. Jack swung the back in brilliantly and West Coast only half cleared, Frazer did well to turn and shoot but Zach got the final touch of the game to score. Gripping stuff.

Todays match round up for our Tangerines away vs Wyre Whites

Afternoon all…..where to begin!

Probably the best collective game of football the Tangerines have played as a team. The communication, organisation, commitment, effort and killer instinct was on display from the first whistle.

Wyre are a good side, and to date have been a bit of a bogey team for us, so we knew we would need to be at our very best to get a result. And frankly that’s what we were. From the first whistle right to the end, player for player I think we dominated across the pitch. So that’s a testament to every player today and they should be really proud of that performance. They’ve set a standard for themselves 💪

First half we were able to control the middle of the pitch and create plenty of chances. We took the lead through MT (WH assist) and then quickly added another by WC after a lovely through ball by AG.

We kept up the pressure and TE was able to add a third after the Wyre keeper saved a shot by MT and TE was right place, right time, to slot home.

A slight bit of confusion towards the end of the half saw the Wyre attacker break through our defensive line and slot home.

HT 3-1

Second half didn’t quite start as we had hoped and Wyre managed to get through our defensive line and slot home to make it 3-2.

There was a slight danger that our heads would drop and allow Wyre to keep up the pressure, but to everyone’s credit, they knuckled down, kept competing and moving the ball around the pitch. As a result we opened up the Wyre defence and created chance after chance. A foul on the edge of the box gave us a free kick, which MT dispatched with power and precision.

That was quickly followed by an own goal as a result of a WC cross. E.I then scored from close range after a superb left footed cross by AG. And the match was well and truly put to bed when E.I netted his second of the game again from close range.

Final Score 7-2

MT ⚽️ ⚽️ (WH 🅰️)
WC ⚽️ (AG 🅰️)
TE ⚽️ (MT 🅰️)
OG ⚽️ (WC 🅰️)
E.I. ⚽️⚽️ (AG 🅰️)

Players of the Game - the whole team played excellent and all deserve a shoutout, however:

Defensive Player of the Game - WH - we were able to play with a degree of freedom in attack because of the solid base of defensive unit set. WH anchored the middle of the pitch and set the tone. But he also chipped in with the assist for the first goal and some lovely defensive splitting forward passes. 👏🏻

Attacking Player of the Game - TE - his best game in a tangerine shirt. He was relentless all game and dominated the Wyre left defence. Excellent crosses and a well took finish. 👏🏻

Well done everyone, fantastic support as always.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you on Wednesday

YMCA Whites 1–3 St Anne’s Yellows

YMCA Whites put in a strong team performance against St Anne’s Yellows, with the match finishing 1–3.

From the opening whistle, YMCA Whites showed great teamwork and communication across the pitch. The players worked hard for each other, moving the ball well and creating some good opportunities going forward.

Despite going behind, the team continued to battle and showed plenty of determination. The communication between the players was excellent, with everyone encouraging each other and working together both in attack and defence.

YMCA Whites managed to get on the scoresheet and continued to push for an equaliser, but St Anne’s Yellows held on to take the win.

Although the result didn't go YMCA Whites' way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The great teamwork, communication and effort shown by the players were particularly impressive.

Match round-up for our Tangerines 2nd game of the season away vs Thornton Cleveleys Vikings

That was a pretty even, competitive, well fought out game of football. So credit to all involved today.

First half we pulled the short straw and had the wind in our faces, and as a result found ourselves having to play more defensively for the first 10/12 minutes or so. But to everyone’s credit they did very well. I’m sure MB and HL will go to sleep tonight with the phrase ‘Watch the bounce’ ringing in their ears! Apologies but no harm in reminding them!

Once we weathered the Thornton attack and got to grips with the wind, I thought overall we had the better end to the first half and created a few half chances, but just couldn’t quiet get that clear cut one. To their credit the Thornton keeper played a good ‘sweeper’ role and snaffled up any slightly overhit through balls.

HT 0-0

Second half, we had the benefit of the wind and started very brightly, but then got sucker punched by a Thornton counter attack. Our players are adamant the ball went out of play for a throw in, but it wasn’t called, Thornton put a couple of good passes together and slotted home for the opener. Lesson to be learned there in playing to the whistle.

However despite going 1-0 down, they all kept their heads up, and played some nice passing football and again created a couple of half chances, but again just didn’t have that decisive finish.

We kept up the effort and a good clearance from GB, made its way to HP, who put a lovely ball through for MK to give him some space to apply that killer finish. Excellent goal 1-1.

The remainder of the half was fairly even, we had a couple of good chances but then so did Thornton which we had to defend well.

All in all 1-1 was probably a fair result, but on another day we might have managed to find that winner.

Final score 1-1

MK ⚽️
HP 🅰️

Any away game in the league is going to be tough, so to be unbeaten after two is a great start to the season.

With regards to the player of game awards, again could have gone to several for their efforts today, specific shoutout to MK. He was a constant threat, and given he’s nursing a toe injury played an excellent game and took his goal really well.

But

Defensive Player of the Game - KH - whether midfield or defensive he doesn’t give the opposition any time on the ball, closes them down in an instant and then has the physicality to more often than not win the ball back and turn defence into attack. 👏🏻

Attacking Player of the Game - AG - Two really solid games to start the season and he’s added an extra dimension and calmness to the midfield. Played with control today and made some excellent progressive passes to put us on the front foot. 👏🏻

Added bonus is that we didn’t get too wet.

As always thanks to coaches, parents and sponsors for the support!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Another great game for the Blues today, coming out 4-3 winners against St. Anne's Blacks. A very close game throughout, a game that has everything, last ditch tables, crossbars hit, posts hit and end to end throughout. Some great performances again throughout the team. Really proud of the effort and hard work they all put in today. Special shot out to the boys who played in defence though, to quote one of their players "I can't get them off the ball".

One or two areas to develop on decision making in crucial moments but they're getting there together as a team.

YMCA u13'sWhites – Post-Match Report
A fantastic effort from the YMCA Whites U13s today as they took on Freetwood Gym U14 side in a challenging match.

Although the final score didn’t really reflect the performance, the boys can be incredibly proud of their efforts. They showed great teamwork, determination and character throughout the game, competing against a bigger and older team.

There was some excellent football played, particularly out on the wings, where the boys worked hard to create space, move the ball forward and put pressure on the opposition. The midfield also deserves a special mention for their energy, passing and ability to keep fighting for possession.

Most importantly, the team stuck together, supported each other and kept working right until the final whistle. For a new team playing up an age group, there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

A great start to the season for the Blues running out 3-0 winners over Poulton Myrmidons. A very close first half ending 0-0 meant everything to play for in the second. The half time team talk must have worked as we scored straight from kick off! Frazer C made the goal with a blistering run through the middle to set up Zach G for his first of 2 goals. Frazer then finished the scoring with a battling third.

This win was even more impressive as we've not had much opportunity to train in the build up to the season. As ever, fantastic support from parents and huge thanks to our sponsors Beaverbrooks, Cuffe and Lacey and Spar.

A great performance by every single player involved!

Welcome back to YMCA Tangerines updates!

First game of the season away vs Kirkham Reds

Brilliant result and a superb team performance.

We know the opposition in L2 will prove to be quality all year, but right from the first whistle we competed with everything Kirkham threw at us. The message before the game was less about technique and more focused on putting the effort in and playing for a teammates, which they all took on board brilliantly.

The team shape and positioning was really good to see, it’s something we have been working on developing over the past couple of seasons and that game was a showcase of their team development to this point.

Defensively, we were really solid all game which gave us a platform to build our attacks from and after a few close chances the deadlock was broken by MT after a lovely through ball from WH played him into space and he slotted home calmly.

The lead was soon doubled, again by MT showing off his finishing, but the passing and assist from MK was just as good to get him into space.

We rode our luck a little bit towards the end of the first half, and some excellent blocks from TE and E.I, along with solid defending from MB🔵 and MB🟣 kept Kirkham at bay.

HT 2-0

The second half was a bit closer and Kirkham kept coming at us, so we had to remain focused and disciplined, which we did and managed to stifle the majority of the Kirkham attacks, but again defensively we were excellent. We had a couple of opportunities on the counter attack which would have put the game to bed, but we just couldn’t find that third goal.

Overall amazing result and everyone should be really proud of themselves.

Final Score 2-0

MT ⚽️⚽️

With regards to the awards this week, genuinely anyone could have won one, and it was a proper team win.

Shoutout for MB 🟣, any game at any level where you keep a clean sheet should be applauded and she was excellent today.

Defensive Player of the Game - MB 🔵 ‘The Ice Man’ - Absolute rock at the back today and led the defensive line brilliantly, never afraid to get stuck in with a tackle or header, but was calm and composed when on the ball to allow us to push up the pitch 👏🏻

Attacking Player of the Game - MT - two excellently took goals as a result of him using his pace and power to get in behind the Kirkham defence. Was a constant threat all game and kept Kirkham on the back foot. Great captains performance.

Thanks as always for the support. Feels good to get a win on the opening day of the season.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
