On this week a year ago, was the start of the destruction of our much loved Wandon Park 😢

DUST! WHAT DUST, THEY SAID!! 🙄🌪️

Well… it seems someone has finally noticed it! 👀

For months, many residents living around Wandon — and those who have no choice but to walk past the building site — have been putting up with an excessive amount of dust flying around the area.

We’ve raised concerns. We’ve taken photographs. We’ve spoken about it.

And now, this week, Boom Construction Limited have been issued with a Section 80 Abatement Notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

So apparently, it wasn’t just residents imagining all that dust after all! 😉

Below is a brief copy of an email received by a local resident. Some information and case references have not been disclosed.

We would be really interested to hear from anyone else who has received additional information, so please get in touch.

The email states:

“I carried out a visit to the site and witnessed the escape of dust from the site at a sufficient amount to meet the threshold for a statutory nuisance. I met with the site manager and explained the dust had been assessed as causing a statutory nuisance and specifically what was causing the nuisance around the site during my visit.

I have issued Boom Construction Limited as the company responsible for the activities that are causing the dust, with a Section 80 Abatement Notice under The Environmental Protection Act 1990, prohibiting the nuisance as covered by Section 79(1)(d) of that Act, namely:

‘any dust, steam, smell or other effluvia arising on any industrial, trade or business premises and being prejudicial to health or a nuisance.’

The notice is in place for 1 year and I shall be carrying out ad hoc inspection visits over the coming weeks and months to ensure that there is not a breach.

If you experience a dust nuisance after this week, please can you document it with time and date-stamped photos [free apps are available to download onto a smart phone] and send them to me.”

So there we have it…

The dust really was there. It really was a nuisance. And it was serious enough to warrant an official Abatement Notice. 🤷‍♀️

The notice is reportedly in place for 12 months, with ad hoc inspections planned during that time.

📸 PLEASE KEEP DOCUMENTING IT

If you experience further dust nuisance, take time and date-stamped photographs and report them as requested.

Because apparently, when residents say “there’s dust everywhere!”, sometimes it takes an official visit to confirm that… yes, there really is dust everywhere! 😂

If anyone else has received information about the notice, we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you to the residents who have continued to raise concerns and provide evidence.

⚠️ ROAD CLOSED

The New Airport Way slip road is closed from the London Luton Airport roundabout to the junction with the main carriageway (travelling westbound, away from the airport).

Following yesterday’s thunderstorms and heavy rain there was a small landslide and the slip road is expected to remain closed for a number of days while the clear-up takes place.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversion via Airport Way and Vauxhall Way, and to allow extra time for your journeys.

With more rain to come, let’s hope the builders have wellies !!

Sorry the ducks flew away from the thunder !😂

Never thought we’d say it, but isn’t it lovely to hear the sound of the rain and thunder, rather than the constant bleeping, engine rumbling and scraping sounds of the diggers! 🌧️⛈️

It’s amazing what you learn to appreciate when you’ve had enough of construction noise! 😂

Message request :-

Hello everyone,

We would like to make residents aware that on Saturday 29th August, a celebration will be taking place in Wandon Close to mark a birthday and, most importantly, the successful completion of treatment following a cancer diagnosis.

There will be music, laughter, and a gathering of family and friends from 2:00pm, with all music and noise finishing by 11:00pm at the latest.

We hope this celebration will not cause too much disturbance to our neighbours and appreciate your understanding. We wanted to give everyone advance notice so that no one is caught by surprise.

Please also note that both the Police and the Local Council have been made aware of the event.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Another opportunity to help volunteer at Wigmore Valley Orchard tomorrow ….

Many residents will have heard or seen the mini road sweeper out all morning, sweeping the roads within the Wandon Park site and along Hayling Drive.

It has been reported to us that, before leaving, the sweeper emptied its load back on site — only for it to be left blowing around again !

So, after spending all morning sweeping it up, it’s apparently been put straight back on the ground!

You honestly couldn’t make it up! 🫣🙄

Yesterday Boom construction added hoods to the electric lights within the alleyway, hopefully this helped local residents who had been affected by the bright lights shining into their houses…
