šŸ’Ŗ Why do I spend 4.5 hours a week on my fitness?

For me, it comes down to three things:

1ļøāƒ£ My work. As a personal trainer, I want to lead by example. I can’t encourage others to look after their fitness if I’m not making it a priority myself.

2ļøāƒ£ My future. I’m investing in my strength, fitness and independence—not just for today, but for the years ahead.

3ļøāƒ£ My wife. And yes, I want to look good for her too! ā¤ļø

My week usually includes around 3 hours of strength training and 1.5 hours of cardio. I see it as a necessity, not a chore. Your routine doesn’t have to look like mine—find a level that works for you and make it part of your life.

What’s your reason for staying active?

🄊 Behind the scenes: single-leg squat thrusts

Every movement I include in my routines is one I’ve tested and practised myself. I want to understand how it feels, how to perform it well, and how to adapt it for the people in front of me.

When I deliver a session, I aim for it to feel a little like an experienced musician playing an instrument: the practice is there, the movements flow, and I can focus on the people I’m coaching.

It’s not just about doing an exercise. It’s about delivering it with purpose, confidence and care.

Are glute bridges enough to get your hips moving confidently again?

Glute bridges are often recommended in rehab—and they can be a useful exercise. But hip pain and recovery after a hip replacement are not one-size-fits-all.

Someone might have weak muscles, restricted movement, or both. And if, four months after a hip replacement, they still can’t comfortably tie their shoelaces, it’s worth looking beyond one exercise. Their recovery needs to be assessed individually by their healthcare professional.

That’s why I developed Stronger Hips, Less Pain and my free 5-Day Hip Confidence Reset: to help people build strength, movement and confidence with a more rounded approach.

If you’re ready to take the next step, visit my website and click ā€œHip Confidence Resetā€ at the bottom of the page.

🄊 A strong guard is one of the first skills I teach in non-contact boxing.

The aim is to protect your body and keep your hands ready.

Here are the key points:
āœ… Round your upper back slightly so your elbows rest close to your rib cage.
āœ… Keep your guard tight, leaving no easy gap for a glove to pass through and reach your body.
āœ… Keep your gloves up around chin level.

Practise the basics, build confidence and keep it controlled. In our sessions, it’s all about learning skills and fitness—no fighting and no contact.

STRENGTH + SPEED = POWER šŸ’Ŗāš”

As we get older, it’s not just our strength that can decline.

Our ability to produce strength quickly can decline too.

That’s power — the combination of strength and speed.

And when power decreases, everyday movements can become more difficult.

Getting up quickly from a chair.

Climbing stairs.

Stepping over an obstacle.

Catching yourself if you lose your balance.

Getting up from the floor.

These are things we often take for granted until they become difficult.

So what can we do about it?

Strength training.

By continuing to challenge our muscles and maintain our strength, we can give ourselves a better chance of staying capable and independent as we age.

That’s why I don’t train just to look good.

I train for the life I want to live.

I want to stay strong enough to deal with whatever life throws at me.

Don’t wait until everyday tasks become difficult.

Build your strength now for the person you’re going to be in the future. šŸ’Ŗ

šŸ’Ŗ PROUD DAD MOMENT!

Watching my son smash out these muscle-ups is pretty special. šŸ”„

Strength, coordination, control and plenty of hard work all coming together.

As a dad and a personal trainer, I love seeing my son challenging himself and developing what his body is capable of doing.

I don’t expect everyone to be doing muscle-ups šŸ˜‚ — but I do believe we should all keep challenging ourselves, whatever our age or ability.

Keep moving. Keep getting stronger. Keep seeing what you’re capable of. šŸ’Ŗ

Well done, son! šŸ‘ŠšŸ”„
