Did you know that 265 School Games National Finals alumni represented the Home Nations at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games?

Alumni have secured 100 medals that include 31 golds, 35 silvers, and 34 bronzes placing them 3rd if they were all to compete as a nation in the medal table. Medallists included Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Hannah Cockroft, Adam Peaty, Eilish McColgan, Olivia Breen, and Bethany Firth. 🏅

The athlete enrichment programme for the School Games National Finals 2026 has been developed by Youth Sport Trust’s Senior Athlete Mentor Rachael MacKenzie and builds on the findings of the Wired to Win playbook, developed following the 2024 Games. This programme and research aim to deepen the collective understanding of how today’s aspiring athletes navigate sport and life. 🙌

Wired to Win found that when competition becomes defined solely by results, rankings or winning, the benefits that can be gained through participation, such as skill development, resilience and belonging, can be overshadowed by pressure, anxiety and fear of failure. That’s why this year’s enrichment programme is focused on creating psychologically safe competition environments, where young people feel supported to perform, learn and grow. 🏅

Modern Pentathlon
Modern Pentathlon athletes will be put to the ultimate test by competing in swimming, obstacle course racing, running, and shooting across the four days of the event.

Netball
Following a successful National School Games Finals in 2024, netball is returning for the 2026 National Finals with some great teams competing.

Triathlon
Triathlon and Paratriathlon are multi-discipline competitions involving three continuous endurance sports (swimming, cycling, and running); it is a unique inclusion in the competition schedule.

Wheelchair Tennis
The most integrative and professional of all para-based sports, wheelchair tennis delivers fantastic career opportunities on the world’s biggest stages.
