⚽ PRE-SEASON VICTORY AT ARBOUR PARK!

Yesterday evening, our players travelled to Arbour Park Stadium for another pre-season fixture, this time against Slough Town FC.

After a very competitive and high-intensity match, we secured a well-deserved 1–0 away victory. 💪

It was another valuable opportunity to build our match fitness, develop the team and assess several new players ahead of the upcoming season.

Next season, we will have two teams competing at different levels:

🔹 One team in the JPL
🔹 One team in the Harrow League

Plenty of positive signs, but there is still more work to do before the competitive season begins! 💙

Hinshelwood was the outstanding young player of the weekend as Brighton defeated Aston Villa 4–0.

⚽ Josh King, 19 – Fulham
Played the full 90 minutes and became the only teenager to score during Matchweek 1.

🎯 Harrison Armstrong, 19 – Everton
Completed 90 minutes, provided an assist and helped Everton keep a clean sheet in their 2–0 victory.

👶 Rio Ngumoha, 17 – Liverpool
The youngest starter of the weekend played 62 minutes against Newcastle.

🛡️ Luka Vušković, 19 – Brighton
Played 90 minutes, recorded 115 touches and helped Brighton keep a clean sheet.

🔥 THE BIGGEST STORIES

Newly promoted Hull City and Ipswich Town both made winning starts, while Coventry City were beaten by Arsenal. The three promoted clubs collected six points from a possible nine.

Brentford delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, beating Tottenham 3–0 and winning the xG battle approximately 3.96–0.47. Spurs failed to register a shot on target in the first half.

Brighton recorded the biggest victory, scoring four times inside the opening 31 minutes against Aston Villa. Jack Hinshelwood scored twice and became the only player to register a brace during Matchweek 1.

Manchester City needed a dramatic comeback against Bournemouth. Marc Guéhi equalised in the 85th minute before Joško Gvardiol scored the winner in added time.

Chelsea had only 38% possession but recorded 18 shots, 37 touches inside the opposition penalty area and created four big chances. Hull 29% in first half.

Four matches were decided or rescued after the 87th minute:

⚽ 88’ – Anton Stach won it for Leeds
⚽ 90’ – Jack Clarke secured Ipswich’s victory
⚽ 90+2’ – Joško Gvardiol completed City’s comeback
⚽ 90+8’ – Dominik Szoboszlai rescued a point for Liverpool

📌 KEY LESSON

Possession does not always equal control.

Hull and Chelsea both had less of the ball but created the more dangerous opportunities and won their matches. Organisation without the ball, transitions, set pieces, penalty-area presence and concentration until the final whistle were among the most decisive factors of the opening weekend.

👔 Only 3 of the league’s 20 head coaches are English:

• Frank Lampard — Coventry City
• Gary O’Neil — Ipswich Town
• Michael Carrick — Manchester United

That means English coaches occupy just 15% of Premier League managerial positions.

The picture among players is similar:

• 172 English players — 29.6%
• 410 players of other nationalities — 70.4%

In other words, for every English player in the Premier League, there are approximately 2.4 players representing another nation.

The Premier League is undoubtedly one of the most global football competitions in the world. It attracts outstanding coaches and players from almost every continent—but does this international success limit opportunities for English coaches and young homegrown players?
