What is the cost of stepping over someone's emotions? Burnout rarely starts with too much work. It starts with not feeling able to say so.
Arianna Huffington put it plainly: "Burnout is not the price we have to pay for success."
That's what this series has really been about. Leading well is a privilege, and the people you lead are what matters most. Stepping over what makes them human, their emotions, costs more than we tend to notice until it's too late.
If this series has landed for you, I'd love to hear from you. Comment below or send me a message, and I'll be happy to offer you a free thinking session.
The Listening Coach
Welcome to my page. Click link to receive updates from www.thelisteningcoach.co.uk Jane’s approach to coaching is different. It goes against the norm.
In today’s society, it is more common to become dependent on others’ thinking. Where others interrupt your thoughts. Where others will be more interested in sharing their insight and experience rather than being curious where you will go next with your thoughts. Where others listen just long enough to get the gist of what you are saying before offering their views or worst still, their opinion. To
What is the cost of stepping over someone's emotions? Your team will only be as emotionally honest as you are. The second in this short series; the lens through which we see others and what it takes from us as leaders to enable others to feel safe to be themesleves.
Sir John Whitmore put it well: "Coaching is unlocking people's potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them."
If it helps to have something to work from, I've put together a short Emotional Agility checklist using Marc Brackett's RULER framework. Comment "checklist" below and I'll send you a copy.
Lastly, what is your leadership reputation built on, composure, or honesty?
What is the cost of stepping over someone's emotions? This short video is the first in a series on this topic. In the second, I'll be offering a framework to help develop a leadership habit.
Where might you be stepping over someone's emotions without meaning to?

I watched the video. I read the article. I listened to someone talk it through.
None of it landed. Not until I thought it through myself.
It wasn't that they were wrong, or unhelpful, or missing the point. It was something else entirely. It was trusting my own thinking, with a little encouragement, that shifted me. Not just understanding, but action and movement towards where I actually wanted to be.
That's the quiet power of independent thinking. Nobody else's clarity can do the work for you. Given the right space, your own thinking will take you further than any advice ever could.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 11th August at 12.00 noon (BST), I'm hosting a free Experience a Thinking Environment® session, an hour to discover what happens when you're given room to think for yourself, without interruption, without fixing, without advice.
Comment THINKING below and I'll send you the joining details.
If you think this might be useful to someone, please invite them to join.
What's something you only really understood once you'd thought it through yourself?

“What do you mean I am not thinking? Of course I am thinking.”
Yes, you are, all day. The question is not whether you are thinking. It is the quality of your thinking. The kind of thinking that draws on your resourcefulness, your creativity, your confidence and your courage needs something most of our days do not give it. Attention and space. The freedom to reach the end of a thought without being interrupted.
Without that, we make rushed decisions that have to be redone. We sit in meetings where people talk over each other, nothing is clearly agreed, and the quieter voices go unheard. Capable people stop offering their best ideas, because they have learned they will be cut off before they finish.
The good news is that what changes this is simple. Attention. The quality of your attention determines the quality of another person’s thinking. Giving it is not difficult, nor complex. It is rare. That is why it is so transforming.
I have written about the cost of not thinking, and what changes it, here: https://janeadsheadgrant.com/the-cost-of-not-thinking/
On Tuesday 11th August at 12 noon I am running a free session, 75 minutes online, where you can experience this for yourself. It is called Experience a Thinking Environment®. You will not sit and listen to me talk about listening. You will spend real time being properly heard, and leave having thought through something that matters to you right now.
It is for coaches, team leaders, and HR and talent development professionals who want to bring this quality of thinking into their organisations.
Comment THINKING below or send me a message and I will share the joining details. If someone came to mind as you read this, tag them. Good thinking rarely happens alone.
