It was a super busy weekend with multiple events happening in Walsall at the university of Wolverhampton. This unique annual event is always memorable and exciting and this year it delivered again.
On Saturday Kasjan and Sensei Beth who were selected to represent the London area Judo team in the minors/ pre cadet team and the Senior Womenโs team. This was a great honour for Kasjanโs first selection while Sensei Beth represented the area for the 4th consecutive year.
Kasjan and his team won an impressive 4 matches against other areas in the pool stages finishing top of the group. Kasjan helped the team by winning ball 4 of his co tests with some nice judo. Unfortunately the team lost out in the semi final against a good Scottish team so finished with well earned Bronze medal and priceless experience.
Next up was Sensei Beth in the Senior women who blew their way throw their pool to them go on to also win their semi final which set up a final against the South. Sensei Beth gave the team just the start they were looking for energising the team with a confident win which was followed by a so domino affect leading to a 4- 1 victory giving them this years title ๐
Massive well done to the senior menโs team winning silver and the cadet/ junior male and female teams from London who both also both won gold taking this years winners trophy. Thank you to the London area coaching team ๐
We are so proud of you keep it up! ๐
Enjoy some highlights ๐

Another hot but fantastic weekend at the Kent Open.
On Saturday was the turn of our U16โs and we had a brilliant day.
4 competitors, 5 medals and some very strong judo along the way.
Connie, Gabrielle and Annabelle all fighting in tough groups worked very hard to pick up wins in their groups and all came away with bronze medals. Gabrielle made the semi final and was unlucky to not progress through to the final but she showed growth in her confidence and progress in her technical judo since joining us. Then, Natalia who is still very new to competing stepped up and competed in two different categories and earned silver in both.
On Sunday was the turn of our juniors, veterans and seniors; first up we had Hadley and Regi who both competed in a very tough -73kg category. They both fought hard and made the cross over, unfortunately due to the draw they met in the first round of the cross over. Hadley ended the day 7th overall and earned 20 more points towards his Black belt. - Hadley unfortunately had to withdraw from the second round of the senior event due to a small injury.
Next up was the veteran categories, Dominic made the final and just missed out on the top spot, he earned a silver medal and continues to earn more points towards his competitive 3rd dan. Sensei Calvin had no one in his weight group therefore he had to step up to the -73kg where he was giving away nearly 10kg in weight. Calvin stormed to the final and just missed out on the top spot this time around.
Finally Sensei Beth, returning from injury entered the senior event as she prepares for the National teams next week. Beth won her pool and convincingly won her semi final in a matter of seconds to make the final. Beth was unlucky in the final but came away with a silver medal and more points towards her 3rd dan! Very impressive after officiating at the event all weekend too!
Some super smooth Judo from Dom last Sunday at the the veterans Dan grading at Stratford JC he won all 4 of his contests by ippon earning more points towards his competitive 3rd Dan
Gia fought bravely but was unfortunately injured and had to withdraw. We wish her a full recovery!
Another back to back solid weekend with Dom, Alex, Sensei Calvin & Sensei Beth traveled up the Thetford to compete in the East Anglian fours competition. This event was a first for us. The format was that the 4 closest in weight were grouped together.
Some beautiful Judo on show from HJC which included a lovey transition and clock strangle from Sensei Beth, as well as a Seoi Nage exhibition from her, Sensei Calvin and Dom. Some physically strong opponents for Alex this weekend with more experience and higher grades than him how we he gain good match practice ahead of this weekends Dan grading.
We are so proud of you all! Keep up the great work

Huge well done to our team who competed last weekend at the High Wycombe Veterans Open
Dominic worked his way to the gold medal match in the veteran menโs u100kg M2 category with some nice wins using techniques heโs working including a nice clock strangle. Dom eventually finished with a well earned silver medal in his 5th event of the year ๐ฅ
Alex kept up the theme of the day with a beautiful Sode jime strangle and also earned himself a silver medal in the veteran menโs u81kg category and a fantastic 10 more points towards his black belt ๐ฅ
Dean who is only 59kg too on the u66โs and u73โs where he met a very experienced 4x BJJ champion in his first contest who he lost to before beating the u73kg player with a lovely seoi nage Ko uchi gake combination and fished with a well earned silver medal ๐ฅ
Lastly Sensei Calvin fought in a mixed u66/ u73kg group where he won all of his contests with a nice mix of standing and ground work to earn the gold medal ๐ฅ
