Jordan Henderson is now a Chelsea player.

Chelsea have officially completed the signing of experienced England midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two years contract. The 36 years old joins the Blues on a free transfer after leaving Brentford by mutual agreement.

Henderson arrives with an outstanding profile, having won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and several other major honours during his career.

His leadership, professionalism and winning mentality are expected to add valuable experience to Xabi Alonso’s young Chelsea squad.

While opinions on the signing are divided, one thing is certain. Chelsea have added one of English football’s most experienced leaders to the dressing room.

What do you think, Blues?

Chelsea XI Analysis vs Tottenham (Pre-Season).

This lineup suggests that the coaching staff are using this match to evaluate both established names and younger players in a competitive setting.

Defensive Structure.

Sharman-Lowe starts in goal behind a back four of Palestra, Fofana, Colwill (captain) and Hato. With Colwill wearing the armband, it reinforces his growing leadership role within the squad. Fofana will be hoping for another solid run to build rhythm, while Hato and Palestra have another opportunity to adapt to Chelsea’s system.

Midfield Balance.

Essugo and Lavia form the double pivot. Both are athletic, strong in duels and comfortable progressing the ball. This partnership should provide defensive protection while allowing Chelsea’s attacking players greater freedom.

Creative Unit.

Estevao, Palmer and Gittens make up the attacking midfield. This is arguably the most exciting part of the lineup.

Palmer remains Chelsea’s primary creative influence.

Estevao will be looking to showcase his flair and one on one ability.

Gittens offers direct running, pace and the willingness to attack defenders.

If these three combine well, Chelsea should create plenty of chances.

Leading the Line.

Joao Pedro starts as the striker. His movement between the lines, ability to link play and pressing from the front will be worth watching. Rather than acting as a traditional target man, he is likely to drift into spaces to bring the attacking midfielders into play.

The Bench.

The substitutes also deserve attention.

Tosin provides experienced defensive cover.
Delap offers a different profile up front with more physicality.
Anselmino, Emenalo, Acheampong, Walsh, Watson, Nicoll-Jazuli, Satpayev, Kellyman and Kavuma-McQueen continue to show Chelsea’s commitment to giving talented youngsters valuable first team minutes during pre-season.

This isn’t just about the result. It’s another opportunity for players to impress the coaching staff, build chemistry and stake a claim ahead of the new season. The blend of senior players and highly rated youngsters makes this a fascinating lineup to watch.

Key battles areas I think we should watch.

1. The Essugo-Lavia midfield partnership.

2. How Palmer links with Estevão and Gittens.

3. Joao Pedro’s movement in Chelsea’s attacking system.

4. Whether the young defenders can cope with Tottenham’s attacking threat.

Three goals in 10 minutes isn’t something you see every day.

What impressed me wasn’t just the hat trick rather it was Joao Pedro’s composure in front of goal. No panic, no wasted touches, just ruthless finishing.

If he keeps playing with this level of confidence and sharpness, then for me I think we have a serious weapon in attack.

Pre season match.

Western Sydney Wanderers 4-6 Chelsea FC.

A pre season scoreline should never be treated the same way as a competitive fixture but there were still plenty of positives to take from our opening outing under Xabi Alonso.

The most important thing was not the six goals. It was seeing the first signs of what Alonso wants this Chelsea side to become.

As with every new manager, pre season is about laying foundations. This was Alonso’s first opportunity to introduce his ideas in a match environment rather than on the training pitch. The players began adapting to different patterns of play, positional rotations, pressing triggers and build up structures. While those ideas won’t be perfected overnight, this match offered an early glimpse into the direction we are heading.

Scoring six goals is encouraging because it shows the team created opportunities and attacked with confidence. At the same time, conceding four goals highlights areas that still require attention. Defensive organisation, communication and transitions remain aspects the coaching staff will undoubtedly focus on before the Premier League campaign begins.

That balance is exactly why pre season exists. Winning is always welcome but identifying weaknesses before competitive football starts is arguably even more valuable.

For Alonso personally, this match marks the beginning of his journey as Chelsea head coach. Every successful manager needs time to implement their philosophy and pre season is where those habits are built. The emphasis will be on improving fitness, developing chemistry, understanding individual roles and creating a collective identity that the players can carry into the new season.

We the supporters should avoid reading too much into a single result whether positive or negative. The objective isn’t to be perfect in July, it’s to be prepared for August. Every pre season fixture is another opportunity for the squad to sharpen their understanding of Alonso’s system, build rhythm and raise their physical levels.

I think Chelsea’s 6-4 victory is therefore best viewed as a promising first step rather than a finished product. There were encouraging attacking moments, lessons to learn defensively and most importantly, the first building blocks of a new era under Xabi Alonso.

The real measure of progress will come in the weeks ahead as Chelsea continue refining their performances and preparing for the challenges of the 2026/27 season.

Chelsea are expected to appoint Austin MacPhee as the club’s new set piece coach.

Multiple reliable reports indicate that the highly regarded scot is set to join Chelsea from Aston Villa where he earned a strong reputation for his work on attacking and defensive set pieces.

Chelsea are yet to make an official announcement.

MacPhee has been widely praised for developing well organised set piece routines with Aston Villa becoming one of the Premier League’s most dangerous teams from dead ball situations during his time at the club.

If the appointment is confirmed, he is expected to strengthen Xabi Alonso’s backroom staff while Bernardo Cueva is reported to be moving into a more analytical role behind the scenes.

A specialist set piece coach could add another dimension to Chelsea at both ends of the pitch with fine margins from corners and free kicks often proving decisive over the course of a season.

Believe me, if this pulls through then we should really be expecting a lot of exciting season ahead of us.

We are cooking real good.
