We spent the last week jumping across Bexley to bring you crucial, life-saving water safety tips... but let’s be honest, getting those perfect shots wasn’t exactly smooth sailing! 🪵🛶

From unexpected splashes to completely forgetting our lines, the team had plenty of hilarious mishaps along the way.

📣 Whistle Woes: Marina blowing her lifeguard whistle so loud and unexpectedly that she scared the local ducks halfway across Danson Park! 🦆💨

💋 The Pre-Scene Smooch: Tom thinking Dan was going to give him a cheeky kiss right before his big moment on camera. 😳😂

Happy Father’s Day to the men who carry the weight of the world on their shoulders so we don’t have to. Today, we honor the quiet sacrifices, the unconditional support, and the deep love that doesn’t always need words to be felt.

We celebrate the anchors who provide a safe harbor whenever life gets stormy, and the builders who spend a lifetime helping us construct our dreams. We honour the bonus dads and mentors who stepped in with open arms and chose to love us as their own, the grandfathers whose gentle wisdom bridges generations, and the single fathers playing every single role to ensure their kids never feel a void.

A gentle note today: We are also holding space for those missing their fathers, those who never had the chance to meet them, and the dads holding memories of children gone too soon. Your hearts are close to ours today.

🛟 DAY 7: The 60 Seconds That Can Save Your Life—How to FLOAT 🌟

If you unexpectedly fall into open water, your body's natural reflex is Cold Water Shock.
Your heart rate spikes, panic sets in, and you instantly gasp for air. If your head is underwater when you gasp, you are in immediate danger. 🛑

The single most important skill you can learn to survive this is FLOAT to Live. Here is exactly how to do it:

🌟 How to Float (The 60-Second Survival Guide)
If you fall in, fight the urge to swim hard and follow these steps immediately:

📐 Lean Back: Tilt your head back and keep your ears underwater to help your body stay horizontal.

🌟 Starfish Position: Extend your arms and legs out wide like a star.

🤚 Move Gently: Gently scull your hands and tap your feet if you need help staying up.

🧘‍♂️ Wait it Out: Focus entirely on floating until your breathing calms down (usually takes about 60 seconds).
Once you are back in control of your breathing, you can calmly shout for help or swim to safety. 🗣️🏊‍♂️

🏊‍♂️ From the Lake to the Pool!
This skill isn't just for wild open water—it is entirely transferable! You can practice this exact same safety tactic in the safety of our swimming pools.

🛟 DAY 6: How to Save a Friend Without Jumping In! 📱🎒

If a friend falls into deep water this summer, your instant instinct might be to jump in after them. DON'T. ❌ You risk becoming a second casualty.

Here is the exact 3-step rescue plan you need to follow from the safety of the bank:

📱 Step 1: Stay Together & Call 999
What to do: Never leave them alone to run for help. Keep your eyes locked on them, pull out your phone, and dial 999 immediately.

Who to ask for: Ask for the Coastguard if you are at the coast/Thames, or Fire and Rescue if you are inland at a lake or river.

🎒 Step 2: Use What’s Around You
What to do: Scan the area for anything that floats or extends your reach.

Look for: Public lifebuoys, a long tree branch, a football, or even an empty plastic cool box. Throw the buoyant object directly to them so they can keep their head above water.

🛑 Step 3: Lie Flat on the Bank!
What to do: If they manage to swim close to the edge, do not stand up to pull them out. If you pull them while standing, their weight can easily drag you straight into the water.

The safe way: Lie completely flat on your stomach on the ground to lower your center of gravity. Extend a long object (like a branch, hoodie, or towel) for them to grab onto and haul them to safety. 🛡️

Memorise these steps, share them with your teenagers, and let's look out for each other this summer.
