Image 1: Edited by Anneke Abhelakh, The Albanian Files: Freedom and Architecture gathers work from 60 international architecture firms active in Albania, tracing how the country's built landscape has evolved since communism fell. The 796-page Lars MĂĽller Publishers release compiles projects, proposals, and personal accounts from practices that have shaped Albania over the last twenty years, capturing an ongoing architectural shift

Image 2: CinderClock, by Endothermal Systems, is a 3D-printed desktop alarm clock built to pull phones out of the bedroom and morning routine. At 140 × 160 × 170 mm, the device pairs a 3.12-inch monochrome OLED screen with a joystick, tactile buttons, a 100 mm arcade-style button, swappable battery cells, on-device audio storage, and built-in environmental sensors — all running with no app or subscription required.

Image 3: Grammy-nominated publisher Owl & Dog playbooks, run by designers Yeonju Yang and Claudio Ripol, makes playful children's books outside client work. Their new title, Collectors Street, made with South Korean illustrator Yooree Ko, imagines a community where every resident has an odd collection. Each page cuts open a house like an X-ray, revealing quirky details in a style reminiscent of Where's Wally

Image 1: Branding agency Thirst have helped M&S re-design their beer aisle, with two new own-label beer ranges. Inspired by vintage postage-stamp storytelling, the new range puts the brewery partners front and center, with each beer becoming a destination.

Image 2: A Patrick Gwynne minimalist mid-century inspired London home makes a statement in Hampstead. Interior Design studio - Daystrip Studio - recently completed a new renovation of the home, retaining many of the building’s original features but making adjustments for contemporary family life.

Image 3: To celebrate 20 years of partnership with Arsenal, Emirates Engineering has crafted a 2.4-meter illuminated crest sculpture built entirely from repurposed Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft parts.

Image 1: The Collected Works, New York City and New Orleans-based independent design studio, are behind the identity design created to bring Sooki Foods to market, specifically its sesame oil. The branding is centred on an illustration and character design of masco Sooki, who takes their name from the founders’ own mum.

Image 2: V&A East, opened earlier this year, is London’s newest cultural hub. Located in Stratford’s East bank the V&A East brings culture and design to the fore. The new elegant and dynamic building was designed by Dublin-based practice O’Connell + Tuomey, and features patterns and a geometric faceted facade.

Image 3: Illustrator Lisa Mouchet has created a new children’s book Tambouille, about cooking, dreaming and playing, described as a “a tribute to my [Lisa’s] friendships, our landscapes, my memories of family and our cabana-branches, our adventures and shared meals!"

Our design picks of the week đź’ˇ

Image 1: Oio and Mattering have used generative AI to create a speaker that holds an entire ecosystem within. “Mur Mur” is technically a portable speaker, which simulates a distinct environment complete with its own atmospheric rhythms and weather. Within this setting, a miniature society of AI generated inhabitants interact to produce a sonic experience that is constantly evolving. There are three ecosystems of the Mur Mur: Pond, Plot, and Block, that each have their own distinct aesthetics and unique inhabitants.

Image 2: Artist Yinka Ilori has announced his debut monograph, Chairman, which is all about the furnitures’ rich design history. Published with ORO Editions Ilori describes how “chairs were my first design love because of the stories they carry” and the book tells stories of connection, creation, power and opens up new ways of seeing the world. Chairman is out on September 1st and available for preorder.

Image 3: London based creative agency Havas London have removed the red from the UK’s most recognisable logos. In collaboration with the NHS & Blood Transplant, the campaign aims to encourage more people to donate blood, particularly focusing on donors Black African and Black Caribbean heritage, whose blood is more likely to match the Ro subtype needed by many people living with sickle cell disease.
