✨ Happy International Yoga Day ✨

Yoga is so much more than movement. It’s a practice of presence, connection, balance, and coming home to ourselves.

In a world that constantly asks us to do more, yoga reminds us to pause, breathe, and simply be.

Since opening MakeYoga, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing incredible journeys within our community.

We’ve seen friendships grow, people find support through life’s challenges, and students deepen their connection with themselves.

Some have even been inspired to become teachers and share this practice with others.

Yoga may not change our lives overnight, but it often creates lasting transformation.

This International Yoga Day, we’d love to hear your story.

💛 Complete this sentence in the comments:

“I fell in love with yoga because of the teacher who…”

Thank you to every teacher, student, and community member for being part of this journey.

June brings opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate in our yoga community.

We’ll start with a beginner-friendly Vinyasa Yoga workshop exploring movement, breath, and alignment.

We’ll also celebrate International Yoga Day with a special community practice.

By popular request, we’ll end the month with an Inversions 90-min Deep Dive class, offering guidance and support for headstands, handstands, and understanding the mechanics of going upside down.

We look forward to sharing these events with you and making June a month of growth and joyful practice.

Yin yoga invites us into a slower, deeper conversation with the body.
Unlike more dynamic practices, it works with the connective tissues — fascia, ligaments, and joints — supporting the layers that hold and sustain us over time.

Here’s what a regular Yin practice can support:

• Hydration and nourishment of the tissues
• Greater resilience and elasticity in connective tissue
• More ease and glide through the fascia
• Healthier, more supported joints
• Smoother, more natural movement patterns
• Support in the healing and softening of scar tissue
• A calmer nervous system and reduced stress response
• Deeper rest and more restorative sleep

And maybe most importantly…
Yin helps us reconnect to a feeling of spaciousness, softness, and longevity in the way we move through life.

At MakeYoga, we believe slowing down is not doing less — it’s creating space to feel more. 🤍

What is yoga?

We don’t mean the methods or techniques it uses, nor the paths that lead to samadhi — the state of deep stillness and meditative absorption.

In the 20th century, one of yoga’s more immediate goals became its health and therapeutic benefits.
The focus shifted toward a healthy, strong body — with its aesthetic aspect placed front and center.

Magazine covers, VHS recordings, TV shows, photography… and now, in the 21st century, yoga portrayed on social media as effortless, graceful, and beautiful — often paired with discipline and regularity, yet still, for the most part, physical.

Even when meditation or other “mental” techniques appear, they often play only a supporting role — while the spotlight remains on the body, its perfect alignment, or the elegance of a vinyasa flow.

Is that wrong? No — there’s nothing wrong with caring for your health.
But sometimes, excessive focus on the body takes us beyond the essence of yoga… perhaps to a place where it stops being yoga at all.

So when does practice remain yoga?

To find the answer, let’s return to the source — the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (2nd century BCE):

✨ atha yogānuśāsanam || 1.1
Now, the teaching of yoga begins.

✨ yogaś citta vṛtti nirodhaḥ || 1.2
Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

This is the true essence of yoga.
Stillness in asana is only the doorway to a much deeper practice — the practice of being with yourself.

✨ tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe ’vasthānam || 1.3
Then, the seer rests in their own true nature.

Only then do we dwell in our essence — in awareness that reaches far beyond the physical form.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 🌿

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week — a gentle reminder to slow down and take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically.

Yoga isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about creating space to breathe, reconnect, and simply be.

Some days the practice feels energising.
Other days just showing up is enough.

Movement can be more than exercise — it can become a pause, a release, and a way back to yourself.

Wherever you are today, you are welcome here 🤍
