The last in our Tekki Shodan ground work series showing bunkai for the final section of the kata (with some artistic licence...but it's a great technique!).

Future bunkai series to follow. Any requests, let us know 👍🏻

Next in our Tekki Shodan ground work series shows bunkai using the uraken section to collapse locked elbows and trap the arms, and then the nami gaeshi to sweep the knee and roll the attacker over.

First time back teaching at the dojo last night after a 3 month break for paternity leave. Great to be back and even better to have a special guest join us for his first official dojo session!

Hopefully the start of another fulfilling martial arts journey

The first in our series of Tekki Shodan bunkai from a ground fighting perspective. A simple escape from defending a grab from inside the guard.

Some footage from Thursday night's class where we ran through our jiyu ippon kumite with techniques against kicks. We kept the focus on clean techniques and fast reaction times.

On Thursday night, we took the adults class to the mats by working on Tekki Shodan bunkai on the ground. We're getting better at working grappling and ground work in Karate nowadays, but I've found that using Tekki as a framework for Karateka who are otherwise unfamiliar or not yet comfortable with ground work is really useful. It was great fun to teach this technical and challenging class.

Tutorial videos on the bunkai we covered to follow...

Monday night's adults class saw us working through techniques to defend against common street attacks with some added elements of dealing with chaos. Students could also work on tweaking techniques to find what works best for their training and body type. A dynamic and really enjoyable class to teach.

We hit the cardio hard on Monday's kids class with several drills on the ladder of death (as the agility ladder is affectionately known in our club!) and then followed it up with another high intensity Karate based circuit drill, which we then finished with some healthy competition.

It was dynamic and huge fun to teach. Well done to everyone who brought their strong efforts in the heat!

Some footage from Thursday night's adults class, where we worked through Jion and some selected bunkai options. The adults brought good energy and questions for the bunkai, focusing on what would practically work in a real life scenario. It was great fun to teach.
