👂🏃‍♂️ "Ear Training" isn't what you think it is 🏃‍♂️👂

People have this idea in their head that your ears are gonna gradually get better at hearing if you practise listening 💪

That's nonsense 😂

The reality is you've been "practising" listening since before you were born (in your mother's womb) 🤰

Your ears are CONSTANTLY on, even when you're asleep, putting in the reps 👍

What you *really* want is to raise your consciousness, to become more *aware* of what you're hearing 🧐

Not the same thing!

Increasing your awareness can happen VERY quickly. E.g. I remember when my dad told me walking near a wall when it's raining will reduce getting wet 🌧

It's because rain tends to fall at an angle. I hadn't noticed before that moment. But once seen, you can't unsee... So it is with learning how to listen 🤓

At the end of the day, it all comes down to your focus

And trust me, your focus can be directed by someone who sees/hears what you have yet to see/hear 👀

What people call "ear training" doesn't need to be a long, slow, boring, laborious process. NOT AT ALL! 🚀

I've seen people go from claiming "I haven't got the ears" to bad-ass audio wizard more times than I care to count 🧙‍♂️

☠ Before I started cross-referencing ☠

Actually, the first time I ever had a track played out by a DJ it was a *totally* humiliating experience... 🙈

My track sounded "fine", at home

In the club, it was a jumbled MESS

You could *sort of* hear the vocals

The drums were muffled

The bassline didn't carry across – at all

Whole instruments just seemed to disappear 👻

Friends present congratulated me for getting my music played, but I did NOT feel accomplished 😩

EVERY other track played that night sounded miles better than mine...

Some even sounded miles better than the average track 🙄

That's when I realised I'd been FOOLISH to hand my track out to DJs without first checking how it sounded next to other similar tracks 🤔

Sometimes I meet people who are *afraid* to compare their tracks to recent high quality releases in the same genre...

The thing is, that comparison WILL happen whenever the track is played out... but by then it's too late to do anything about it 💀
