Under exam conditions, it can be easy to focus on what has just happened or what might happen next.
However, effective communication depends on paying attention to what is happening right now.
Being fully present can help you listen more effectively, respond more naturally, and engage more meaningfully with the patient.
Iβm sharing a short clip on this today, looking at mindfulness, presence and the importance of being in the moment.
If you're sitting LDS Part 2 this week, I would like to wish you the very best of luck.

Caro Breton Communication Skills Coaching
π Hi, Iβm Caro Breton β actor, author, communication skills coach and OSCE role-play specialist.
For over 15 years, Iβve worked in medical education as a roleplay actor, helping healthcare professionals bring warmth, clarity and confidence to patient communication β even under intense exam pressure. I created my coaching programmes to support overseas dentists preparing for the ORE/LDS Part 2, as well as medical and dental students who need a reset in their OSCE journey. My focus is always th
In an OSCE, candidates sometimes feel pressure to keep talking right up to β and even after β the warning bell at the end of the station.
However, more talking does not necessarily mean more marks. Clarity, focus and knowing how and when to stop can be just as important as what is said.
Iβm sharing a short clip on this today, looking at timing, communication and knowing when enough is enough in OSCE interactions.
I am currently taking expressions of interest for future Intensive cohorts for ORE and LDS Part 2 candidates.
If a future cohort might be of interest, feel free to send me a WhatsApp message on π² 07710 506449.
Many candidates feel slightly disoriented when they first walk into the OSCE room, especially when feeling under pressure or moving quickly from one station to another.
One thing that can help is using imagination to transport the interaction into a more familiar setting, helping it feel more grounded, natural and comfortable.
Iβm sharing a short clip on this today, looking at βsetting the sceneβ in OSCE interactions.
OSCE Rehearsal Sessions provide a practical, in-depth workout using real stations, live interaction, immediate feedback and the opportunity to immediately put adjustments into practice during the session itself.

Many ORE Part 2 and LDS Part 2 candidates tell me that they feel confident when practising alone, but things can feel very different under exam conditions.
What sounded natural in practice can suddenly become rushed, rehearsed or difficult to adapt when faced with an actor, an examiner and a ticking clock.
My OSCE Rehearsal Sessions are designed to help candidates:
β Rehearse stations in-depth with an experienced actor and performance coach
β Receive immediate, personalised feedback
β Identify habits that may be costing marks
β Develop a more natural, patient-centred approach
β Better understand how actor-patients work
Sessions are available online or in person in SW London and are tailored to individual needs and stage of preparation.
A 90-minute session costs Β£75. Concessionary rates are available for eligible candidates.
To book, send a WhatsApp message to 07710 506449 or visit https://calendly.com/carobretonactor/one-on-one-coaching.
In OSCE interactions, things do not always unfold exactly as expected.
Candidates need to be able to respond flexibly to the patient, adapt naturally to what is happening in the moment, and think on their feet during the roleplay.

Many ORE2 and LDS2 candidates spend a lot of time learning what they want to say.
But communication skills are about much more than remembering the right phrases.
In the exam room, patients don't always respond in the way you expect. They may be anxious, upset, frustrated or confused.
The candidates who perform best are often those who can listen carefully, adapt to the situation and respond naturally in the moment.
That's one of the key areas we'll be working on during the August Intensive.

Trying to sound βnaturalβ in an OSCE can sometimes make you more self-conscious and less connected to the interaction itself.
Often, taking a genuine interest in the patient leads to more meaningful communication and a more effective interaction overall.
Iβm sharing a short clip on this today, looking at authenticity, connection, and communication in OSCEs.

Under pressure, some candidates try to include as much information as possible in the OSCE interaction.
But this can sometimes lead to overload rather than clarity.
When candidates become overwhelmed, it becomes harder to think clearly, communicate effectively and focus on what actually matters in the interaction.
Iβm sharing a short clip on this today, looking at panic mode, overwhelm and information overload in OSCEs.
My August Intensive is now open for enrolment, focusing on adaptable communication and performance skills for ORE/LDS Part 2 OSCEs.
The programme explores ways to clarify clinical content, communicate more effectively under pressure, and approach OSCE interactions in a calmer and more flexible way.
