We are all about the 'adrenaline rush'; taking the 'dis' out of disability and focusing on ability.

The charity has one aim – to provide sport and challenging pursuits for people with paralysis. People with conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, MS, cerebral palsy and others, are able to participate in a variety of sports - scuba diving, sailing, canoeing, archery, angling, abseiling, quad-biking, gliding, clay pigeon shooting, and more.

Thursday 6th August is Paddle Boarding in Yorkshire!

We are thrilled to announce the date for our Paddle Boarding Event in our Yorkshire region.

Dan and his wonderful team at SUP Active Yorkshire are waiting to welcome us to this exciting experience on Thursday 6th August 2026 at Ellerton Lake, a popular 60 acre water sports venue in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

We will meet at 12.30 pm in the car park.

With their expertise you will be surprised how quickly you will be on the water.

They pride themselves in providing an inclusive, safe and fun learning environment and are really passionate about ensuring a great day out on the water.

All their instructors are ASI and British Canoeing qualified.

There is a choice of boards from (large with out-riggers, extra large or multi person boards) and seating on the board is provided in the form of specially adapted wheelchair frame.

It will be up to the instructors on the day to match you with the most suitable board.

Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and life jackets will be provided but it is still advisable to bring along a change of clothing and footwear in case you get wet.

The car park has compacted gravel and there is ramped access to the water.

Help will be given to transfer on and off the Boards, if required. There is a disabled toilet.

Tea and coffee provided on site and less than five minutes down the road is a lovely accessible cafe and farm shop.

Please note: The lake fees have been covered so when asked, just let them know you are with Danny of SUP Active Yorkshire for paddle boarding and this is the case.

Please note: absolute beginners or never-evers all welcomed so get booking.

And, don't worry if you have never been paddle boarding before - just be ready to be amazed at what you can achieve and remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

Wednesday 5th August is Quad-Biking in Leicestershire!

We are pleased to announce another 2026 date one of our most exciting events: Quad Biking.

Robin and the crew at Avalanche Adventure Ltd are waiting to welcome us at their extensive facility, just 7 miles from Junction 20 of the M1, in Market Harborough, near Leicester.

We'll meet at 11.30 am for complimentary tea and coffee with a planned 12.00 pm start.

There will be a full safety briefing, then kit up for the quad-biking session. This will be a gentle circuit in the fields adjoining.

This is 1-on-1 instruction to determine the skill and ability levels. But please note: Absolute beginners or never-evers all welcomed!

Then it's off for a woodland ramble in convoy - they have over 15 kms of tracks through some 440 acres of challenging countryside incorporating slopes, mud, grassland and picturesque woodland.

For safety reasons it will of course be up to the Avalanche Adventure instructors to determine the route and participants. They may decide for safety reasons to split the group, but we know you will enjoy the ride!

So, surprise yourself and be tempted, you'll be amazed at what you might achieve. It will be an afternoon of fun and discovery.

Friday 17th July is Power Boating in Yorkshire!

We are thrilled to announce the July 2026 date for some Power Boating in Yorkshire.

The fully qualified crew at Wetwheels Yorkshire will be waiting to welcome you at the Marina Office in Whitby.

There are two sailing sessions.

Session One : Arrival time 3.30pm - Sailing 4.00pm

Session Two : Arrival time 5.30 pm - Sailing 6.00 pm

The full address is Marina Office, off Langbourne Road, Whitby, Y021 1YW. Meet here and wait to be escorted to the boat by a member of the Wetwheels crew.

The Wetwheels boat will enable you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of powered boating with everyone getting a turn at sailing the boat.

Complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome.

A friendly team of instructors and experienced sailors will ensure your time on the water, whatever your level, is thrilling

The marina is fully accessible and there is roll on, roll off wheelchair access to the boat.

Life Jackets are of course provided.

Don't worry if you haven't tried power boating before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.

And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

There are wheelchair accessible loos at the meeting point but no changing rooms, so if you do get wet you will have to change in one of these loos.

The marina is in the centre of Whitby with plenty of cafes only five minutes away and there is disabled parking just by the Marina Office.

You don't need special clothing, anything that is comfortable is OK. Tracksuits are ideal, but any casual trouser, jeans, tee-shirts and sweatshirts or fleeces are fine. Ladies, do not wear dresses or skirts as the life jackets use crutch straps.

It will always feel cooler on the water, so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer.

As mentioned before a change of clothes is also not a bad idea - just in case but Wetwheels do have splash capes available on board.

Wednesday 29th July is Sailing in the Beautiful Peak District!

We are delighted to announce that Phil and the crew at Carsington Sailability will be waiting to welcome you at the expansive Carsington Water, in the glorious dales near Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Carsington Water is set in the beautiful Peak District, with its natural setting forming the perfect backdrop for a fantastic sailing experience.

The fully accessible stone-built clubhouse has large, warm changing rooms with hot showers, as well extensive catering facilities, where both hot and cold food is served.

There is ample car parking and the Clubhouse has a large balcony area with superb views over the water and the surrounding countryside.

The Club will provide several boats for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing.

From the small Hansa 303 to inspire confidence, to some of the larger boats, Carsington aim to provide enough variety for everyone!

So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome. And for more experienced sailors there are some craft that will test your mettle!

There is a friendly team of instructors and experienced sailors at the club who will welcome you whatever your level of expertise.

There are hoists available if needed, for assisting people into and out of boats.

Buoyancy aids are provided for all sailors, and we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes - you might get wet!

Don't worry if you haven't tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.

And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

You don't need special clothing, anything that is comfortable is OK. Tracksuits are ideal, but any casual trouser, jeans, tee-shirts and sweatshirts or fleeces are fine.

Tuesday 21st July is Fly Fishing in the East Midlands!

We are thrilled to announce some more Fly Fishing in our East Midlands region.

The wonderful team at Ladybower Fisheries are waiting to welcome us to this fabulous experience on Tuesday 21st July 2026 in the heart of the Peak District, arrival 10.30 am.

The Ladybower Reservoir is set against the breath-taking backdrop of the Peak District National Park and Ladybower Fisheries offers one of the UK’s most iconic fly fishing experiences.

Whether you're a seasoned angler or new to the sport, our crystal-clear waters and thriving fish stock—featuring hard-fighting Rainbow, Blue, and wild Brown trout.

With over 13 miles of accessible bank, and a fleet of fully powered boats there's a fishing style to suit everyone.

The Ladybower Angling Trust Lead Coaches will explain how to enjoy fly-fishing in a relaxed picturesque environment.

They have the insight, skill and understanding of how to teach anglers of all abilities.

There are accessible loos and changing rooms. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available. Bring a packed lunch or the Yorkshire Bridge Inn is only five minutes away.

Parking: Please stop in the Lady Bower Fisheries car park or on the road right beside it and wait for a staff member to come along and open the gate so you can park next to the lake. DO NOT PARK AT HEATHER DEAN.

Friday 17th July is Gliding in the Cotswolds!

We are delighted to announce that we have arranged some fantastic Gliding for You.

The fabulous team of experienced instructors at the Cotswold Gliding Club are waiting to welcome us.

Cotswold Gliding Club, Aston Down, Minchinhampton, Gloucester.

This is a really exhilarating experience, bringing you the thrill of silent flight and definitely one not to be missed.

Sure the take-off and landing seem a bit hairy for first timers, but when you are up up and away there is nothing like it.

The views over the Cotswolds and out across the Bristol Channel are simply amazing!

There's also the chance of some stunning and truly different photography. It's a fabulous experience. No expertise required, simply have a go and be thrilled!

Please note the following restrictions as advised by Cotswold Gliding Club :-

Weight. Due to aircraft limitations we cannot fly with anyone over 110kg (242lbs), fully clothed and wearing a parachute (7kg) - If found to be over the weight limit the pilot may not allow you to participate for safety reasons.

If you weigh less than 45kg (100lbs) then please contact us for advice. Also very tall people, more than 1.9m (6ft 3ins), may have difficulty fitting into the cockpit.

Wednesday15th July is Sailing in Hull!

We're delighted to announce some super sailing at the Welton Waters Activities Centre.

Location: Common Lane, Brough, HU15 1XL, United Kingdom.

They have a variety of boats for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing with their fleet comprising Hansa, Laser Stratos and, most important for us, Access dinghies.

The Access was designed specifically to meet the needs of disabled sailors.

With their heavily weighted keels and inbuilt buoyancy, they are very stable. Seated low, and facing forwards, movement within the boat is NOT required.

The only controls needed for sailing are a joystick, with left/right movement for steering, and a rope, pulled or released, to control the sails.

You'll be able to start sailing these boats immediately, accompanied by an experience sailor cm instructor from the Club. But very soon you can easily sail them on your own.

So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome!

There is wheelchair access throughout the Centre with accessible loos and changing rooms and onto the pontoon.

They will provide a hoist if needed for easier access to the boats.

If you have your own sling please bring this. They also provide buoyancy aids and waterproofs.

Life Jackets are of course provided, but we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes - you might get wet!

Don't worry if you haven't tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.
