Training Update: I’m pulling out of race day. 🛑

I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago and did some ligament damage. Rehab was going well, so I tried an easy shake-out run. It felt great. Then at mile 3, my right calf strained. Most likely still compensating for the ankle.

Ego says push through and race anyway. Experience says that’s how a 3-week niggle turns into 3 months, or even surgery. I’d rather pull out myself than have a surgeon make the call down the line. My osteopath agrees 😄

I coach executives and founders to build fitness that lasts, so I have to follow my own rules: sustainable beats heroic. Every time.

So I’m resting, rehabbing properly, and coming back stronger.

Athletic foundations and physique phase inbound. 💪

No setbacks. We just adapt and overcome. 📈

Overweight and playing through pain? This one’s for you. 👇

I know it sounds harsh. But I’d rather you hear it from me now than from a surgeon later.

Every week I work with executives and entrepreneurs who love padel, tennis, football and running. When they start with me, the sport takes a back seat for a bit. We drop the scale weight, rebuild the foundations, and then they get back to playing for years instead of months.

Taking time out now isn’t losing your sport. It’s protecting it.

You shouldn’t have to choose between getting results and having a life.

Of course there’ll be periods where a goal needs more discipline. That’s normal.

But one meal out, a holiday or a missed session shouldn’t leave you feeling like you’ve ruined everything and need to start again on Monday.

Train properly. Eat well most of the time. Understand what actually matters. Then you can enjoy life when it happens and carry on afterwards.

I want my clients to look better, get stronger and feel fitter… but I also want them to enjoy the life they’re getting fit for.

If you want to make serious progress without putting the rest of your life on hold, message me “PERFORM” and I’ll talk you through how coaching works.

We’ve become so hyper focused on doing one thing.

Want to start running? Suddenly, all you do is run.
Want to look good? Suddenly, you’re eating like you’re stepping on stage.

But it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

You can build a physique you feel confident in and still have the fitness to run, play sport or simply feel more capable day to day.

The aim is to be strong, athletic and capable, while still liking what you see in the mirror.

That takes more than just throwing runs into a gym plan. It takes structuring the week properly, fuelling enough to perform and training with a clear purpose so both sides actually improve.

That’s the difference between just exercising and building a body that performs.

The last couple of weeks in a nutshell:

Running was going very well… until I decided to fold my ankle and end up in A&E (all good, just a sprain). Perfect timing a month out from Royal Parks half 😅

The 12-week challenge is in full swing with 50+ people involved, plenty of new clients getting started and some great momentum already 🙏

Lots of work, plenty of recovery and a day at the Bridge to finish it off. Thanks to my long term client & good friend Khaled خالد for the hospitality 💪🔵

Highs, lows and everything in between. We move 🫡

BALANCE IS GREAT. JUST DON’T PRETEND IT COMES WITHOUT TRADE OFFS.

After a huge week for the business and a 60-70 hour work week, I switched off with a few beers whilst watching the boxing, followed by a takeaway and dessert.

No guilt. No regret. I enjoyed it.

But I paid for it during today’s 16km long run, which had race pace work built into it.

I had stitches pretty much the entire way. During the 30 minute effort at 4:15/km, I wanted to stop almost every minute, but I stayed in it and got the job done anyway, even though I couldn’t hold race pace.

I’m a huge advocate for balance. If your goal is to look good, feel fit, stay healthy and enjoy your life, it’s exactly what I’d recommend. You don’t need to optimise every decision or live like a professional athlete.

But when you start chasing specific times and performance milestones, those choices come with a much bigger trade off.

You can still have both, but the closer you get to your potential, the smaller your margin for error becomes.

That doesn’t mean we should glorify poor preparation. Most progress comes from preparing properly, nailing your pre run nutrition, pacing well and executing the plan.

But when a session does turn ugly, there can still be value in staying in it.

Race day will hurt too. When I’m grinding through those final few kilometres, this is one of the sessions I’ll be able to draw on.

Balance enjoyed. Trade off accepted. 16km banked.

Now for a big week ahead with the team with our community challenge kicking off tomorrow 🤝

Lifestyle change | Gavin’s 20kg fat loss journey

Gav was never the guy who didn’t train.

Running with a weighted vest, pushing sleds and sometimes training twice a day. Being an ex athlete, he always had that beast in him.

But his nutrition was all over the place and recovery was an afterthought.

He would barely eat, smash himself in training and then wonder why he was exhausted and eating everything in sight afterwards.

Months of doing that with little to show for it would turn into months of doing nothing at all.

Then the guilt would kick in, he’d go again and the cycle would repeat.

For a while, he thought it was bad genetics.

But he wasn’t lacking effort. He was lacking structure.

Once we got his nutrition in place, fuelled his training properly and prioritised recovery, the weight dropped off him.

20kg down.

Not because he worked harder, but because he finally stopped working against himself.

Best thing about this is we are not finished here, a lot of work to still go in to really build a physique that this man deserves.

If that cycle sounds familiar and you’re ready to do things properly, drop me a message and let’s get a plan in place 💪

People think the disciplined ones don’t have bad days.

They do.

They still feel tired. Still make excuses in their head. Still have moments where doing nothing feels easier.

But they’ve learned that progress comes from following the plan, even when they don’t feel like it.

The battle doesn’t disappear.

You just get better at winning it.

The strongest people still struggle.

They still hesitate. Still overthink. Still have days they don’t want to do it.

The difference is they don’t let those feelings make the decision.

You’ll never stop having that argument in your head.

You just have to keep winning it.
