AI and predictive safety tools 🧰are useless without good data. But if frontline workers think tech is meant to monitor or penalise them, they won’t use it.
As HSI CEO Jose Arcilla notes, success requires a "human-led, AI-accelerated" approach. Involve staff in co-design, prioritise simplicity, and build trust first. 🤝🙏

⚛️ Is Over-Regulation the Real Nuclear Risk?
As AI drives unprecedented demand for 24/7 power, nuclear is the ultimate clean energy powerhouse hope. Yet the primary barrier to rollout isn't public pushback - it's a culture of hyper-regulation.
As we explore with Kelvin Williams, occupational hygienist at Hinkley Point C, extreme compliance pressure can trigger dangerous human factors risks such as over-engineering: zero-tolerance specifications that expose workers to conventional hazards like silica dust.
At the same time nuclear energy's so-called 'culture of extreme risk aversion' can't be laid at the regulator's door, says Kevin Bampton of BOHS.
We ask whether a fundamental reset of how we define and tolerate risk in nuclear is required. Or if there's more complexity at play:

If we willingly track our sleep and heart rates at home, are we ready for AI to do it at work?
Dr. Julie Riggs warns that while smart tech can predict risks like fatigue 💤, it cannot understand human context. Safety professionals must step up as algorithmic auditors - ensuring data supports employee wellbeing 🩵 rather than driving invasive surveillance. ⌚
