"We are not linear beings — we are fluctuating beings."

On the show floor at Elevate, Vanessa Goddess sat down with Christine from Menopause Movement for a conversation that every health, fitness, and sports professional needs to hear.

Did you know that 40% of a woman's lifetime is spent post-menopause? Yet, so many women put up with symptoms, joint pain, and pelvic floor dysfunction assuming there are "medals to be won" for toughing it out on their own.

Here are 4 critical takeaways from our conversation:
1️⃣ Bone Health & Muscle Mass are Non-Negotiable: 1 in 2 women will experience an osteoporotic fracture. Strength training, interval training, and progressive loading aren't optional — lean muscle mass is our lifelong health bank account.
2️⃣ "Wear & Tear" is a Misnomer: Joint pain is one of the earliest, most overlooked symptoms of menopause. "Wear and tear" doesn't happen when you load your body — it happens when you don't. Inactivity is the real culprit.
3️⃣ Women Want to Be Asked: From pelvic health to fear of movement, women often won't volunteer their symptoms, but studies show they want fitness professionals to ask the right screening questions and guide them safely.
4️⃣ Creating Psychologically Safe Spaces: From gyms to boutique studios, environment matters. Operators need well-trained staff who can confidently coach women through menopause without fear-inducing social media messaging.

Menopause Movement has just launched a new evidence-based Menopause MOT to give trainers, physios, and coaches simple, applicable screening tools to support female clients properly.

From becoming the youngest player in Newcastle United's history to a barrister, Sunday Times bestselling author, and now CEO of Speedflex, Paul Ferris has lived an extraordinary life.

In the latest episode of the Elevate Exhibitor Spotlight, host Vanessa Goddess sits down with Paul to discuss the journey behind Speedflex—and the resilience that shaped it.

After a career-ending football injury at 21, devastating personal loss, retraining as a criminal barrister, surviving a heart attack, and battling prostate cancer, Paul found a new purpose: making fitness accessible to everyone.

His experiences inspired the evolution of Speedflex, a unique, low-impact training system that allows people of all ages and abilities—from elite athletes to cancer survivors—to train side by side. Today, the brand operates across more than 105 UK sites and is expanding internationally.

As Paul reflects:

"Just because we've had some tough chapters in the past doesn't mean there aren't some incredible ones to come. I think I might just be a late bloomer."

🎙️ Elevate Podcast Series: Laughter, Movement, and Medicine with Innerva & Derrick Evans MBE [Mr. Motivator]

"You only get old when you stop being young." ✨

If there is one thing we learned from hosting the live Elevate Podcast group at our 10th Anniversary show, it’s that physical activity should always lead with one key ingredient: enjoyment.

In our latest episode, we sat down with John from Innerva and the nation’s favourite wellness icon, Derrick Evans, better known as Mr. Motivator, to discuss the rapidly growing global demand for active aging solutions and why the pathway to exercise must change.

🚀 The Next Generation of Active Aging
Innerva is redefining how we support healthy aging, both in the UK and worldwide. With the launch of their next-generation Power Assisted Exercise (PAE) equipment and the Innerva Connect digital ecosystem (backed by Innovate UK), they are making tracking health data simple and accessible for operators. Think of it like an electric bike; providing the exact power assist an individual needs to build confidence, movement, and strength at their own pace.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 A Mission Close to Our Hearts: Ending Bed Poverty
Beyond the exhibition floor, Mr. Motivator shared an urgent message regarding a crisis happening right on our doorsteps: Bed Poverty. Today in the UK, over a million children go to sleep without a proper bed, sleeping instead on floors or beanbags. This stunts growth, impacts school development, and goes largely unmentioned. Derek is on a vital mission to change that through the Bed Bank initiative.

💥 How you can support right now:
Listen: Tune into the full podcast episode to hear the full, energetic chat on the future of leisure facilities and active aging.
Sign the Petition: Help Derek take bed poverty to the government as a standalone issue.
Donate: Every contribution helps local charities put a bed under a child who needs it.
