Not quite ready to let summer go yet? Neither are we. ☀️🍻

As the dust settles on the first ever Telford Open, there’s one final post we need to make…
Firstly, to our very own Will “Kiwi” Hewett. 🎾
The whole thing started as Will’s idea, and what an idea it turned out to be.
From suggesting Telford should host an LTA Grade 4 Open to getting it off the ground against short timelines, various barriers and a hefty to-do list, Will drove it from the start.
And he didn’t stop once it began. Every evening he was manning the tournament desk, looking after players and spectators, working late into the night on schedules… while somehow finding time to get on court too.
Because apparently organising it wasn’t enough… he went and won BOTH the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles titles. 🏆🏆
He also made a very committed effort to support the bar every night, although we’re not entirely convinced that part required much sacrifice. 🍻
A huge thank you, Will. We think you might have started something pretty special.
Of course, it took a team too. Thank you to the Board for backing the idea, Nadeem our ref for making sure everything was run according to the book, Juliet for everything she did behind the scenes to keep the club operational and able to support the event, Ross and the bar team for keeping everyone refreshed, Florrie for keeping everyone extremely well fed, Lou for keeping the fridge stocked and Lizzie for putting the menu together.
And finally, thank you to every player who entered, travelled to Telford and made the tournament what it was – and everyone who came down to watch, support and get behind it.
From an idea to a full LTA Open in a matter of months.

Two days on and we’re still thinking about what a week it was at the inaugural Telford Open! 🎾🏆
Six days of incredible tennis, plenty of drama and some seriously good matches gave us our first ever Telford Open champions.
A huge congratulations to all of our main draw and consolation winners, every finalist, and all the opponents they met along the way who made them work for it!
The standard of tennis across the week was brilliant and we couldn’t have asked for a better first Open.

Ladies and gentlemen… we present the ‘final finals’ of the inaugural Telford Open! 🎾🏆
And what a final day it was!
We started with an all-Telford Men’s Singles Consolation Final, with seasoned pro Ian Edwards taking on junior Finn Tierney, playing in his first adult singles tournament. Ian took the title, but what a week for Finn! 🙌
Then it was over to the doubles – and plenty more Telford success…
🏆 Will Denton & Jamie White took the Men’s Doubles Consolation title, adding another home win to the week.
🏆 And our very own Will “Kiwi” Hewett rounded things off by teaming up with Matty “Wigmore” Fisher-Barrow to win the Men’s Doubles – adding a second title to Will’s week and another trophy for Telford.
A brilliant final day!

What a week it’s been – and after another brilliant evening of tennis yesterday, we’re down to the final few matches!

We knew it would be a good match… but we didn’t know it would be THAT good! 🎾🔥
The men’s semi-final between Telford’s Will Hewett and Joe Shields had everything you could ask for, apart from both players being able to come out victorious!
We didn’t know which way to point the camera, but thankfully the points in the Championship Tie Break were long enough for us to capture a bit of both players battling it out.
14–12 in the end, with Will taking it.
And it wasn’t just Court 1. We wish we’d had cameras on every court tonight because there were incredible matches wherever you looked.
The standard of tennis the Telford Open has attracted this week has been fantastic, and tonight really showed it.
What an evening of tennis at the club! 🙌🎾

If you haven’t made it down to the Telford Open yet, tonight’s good night to change that!
The Tournament has attracted some brilliant players and we’ve been treated to some seriously good tennis.
Last night was no exception, with some brilliant matches across the courts, including a fantastic display from our very own Joe S beating the No 1 seed.
We’ve got some great men’s semi-finals coming up tonight, and the ladies’ singles and doubles gets underway, so there’s plenty to watch!
Even if you don’t know anyone playing, come down, grab a drink and some food, and enjoy some seriously good tennis.

WE HAVE OUR FIRST TELFORD OPEN WINNERS!
Last night saw the first finals of the week, with three Telford pairs in action across the Mixed Doubles main draw and consolation.
Will Denton & Emma Parkinson put on a brilliant display in the main final, pushing the very impressive number one seeds Nicholas Nugent & Olivia Dwyer, who took the title 🏆
Then it was Telford v Telford in the consolation final, with Harry Woodman & Lizzie Jones taking the win against James Binny & Emma Tillson 🙌
A great night for the home crowd! 🎾
