Well hello September!

September is often thought of as Self-Care September and I found out that it's also Peri-Menopause Awareness Month (of course, as next month is menopause awareness month).

Peri-menopause was a rollercoaster for me before I trained as a menopause coach and applied all of my learning to myself. My training taught me that a lot of managing menopause and peri-menopause is down to outstanding bespoke self-care - you know the type that is actually quite tough to do but makes a significant difference...

This September I am going to be checking in with how I am doing on the main topics we cover in The Menopause Plan - a 7 session coaching programme that helps you understand your hormones and boost your overall wellbeing.

✨ What will you do this September for self-care and/or peri-menopause?
✨ What do you already know helps your symptoms, energy or wellbeing, but aren't consistently doing?
✨ What symptoms are you noticing that you'd like to understand better?
✨ What support would make this stage of life easier for you?

If you'd like to learn more about The Menopause Plan read on and drop me a message to book a free no-obligation chat 💬

Over 7 sessions you make small changes at your own pace that build to rewind symptoms, boost energy, sleep and relationships. As your coach I will be your guide, supporter & sounding board. I will be non-judgemental and provide encouragement and accountability to help you succeed where you maybe haven't before.

Clients say :
"Tackling the menopause, unpicking it when you are down in the depths of its effects requires a strategy and this programme gives you this"
"I would strongly recommend Jenny as a coach, she is warm & easy to communicate with but also assertive to get commitment to achieve next steps"

Here in the UK we're approaching the August Bank Holiday weekend, a 3 day weekend which for me feels like the end of summer...

The school holidays are nearly over; there are uniforms to find, calendars to check, routines to re-establish and work to get back into properly (I've been more part-time and more flexible for the last few weeks).

The bank holiday is a lovely extra day but if it feels like a bit of a transition point for you before September and Autumn appear perhaps you'd like to take a few minutes to think about:
✨ What worked well over the summer that I'd like to keep?
✨ What am I ready to let go of?
✨ What do I want Autumn to feel like?
✨ What's one thing I could put in place now that would make the next few weeks easier?

You don't need to have all the asnwers but sometimes a little bit of thinking ahead can make a big difference to how we step into what's next.

Coaching statistics that might surprise you…

In coaching we often talk about how things feel - having a safe confidential space to talk things through, gaining clarity, feeling more confident and finally taking action - but there’s some great data behind it too (the psychologist in me loves some stats).

Research from the International Coaching Federation showed that people who had experienced coaching reported:
✨ 42% improved communication skills,
✨ 41% increased self-esteem or self-confidence,
✨ 38% increased productivity,
✨ 38% improved work-life balance.

What would you most like coaching to help you with❓

What are you reading or listening to?

I'm in a bookclub so nearly always have a reading book on the go, plus when in the car or walking alone I sometimes listen to podcasts. Additionally, I like reading non-fiction to support my coaching or self-development.

I love the me time, to escape and to learn.

I am currently reading 'Atmosphere' by Taylor Jenkins Reid on my Kindle for bookclub and have just finished reading 'Careless People' by Sarah Wynn-Williams as it was recommended by a friend. My current favourite podcast is 'What's Up Docs?' on BBc iPlayer.

✨ What are you reading or listening to?
✨ What do you get from time reading or listening?
✨ What could you read, listen to or explore that might help you with something you're working through right now?
✨ What are you learning about yourself?

Coaching concepts continued...

This month I'd like to focus on 'habits'.

We all have habits. Some support us, some don't and some we don't even realise we're doing until we stop and think about them.

In coaching we cover habits in many many ways; for example you can cover breaking habits, you can start new habits, you can make the behaviour more consistent and easier, you can explore willpower and you can get curious about your habits - what's underneath, really going on...

Some coaching questions to get you thinking, and if you want to explore some more simply get in touch to book a free discovery call:

✨ Which of your habits are helping you and which aren't?
✨ What habit would you like t change?
✨ What new habit would make a positive difference to your life?
✨ How can you make it easier to succeed?

What shape is your coaching practice?

At a recent group coaching supervision session we were asked this and it was not only a lovely reflection exercise to open the session with but as we shared our shapes it was also a great way to get to know a little about the other people in the group.

I said that the first shape that came into my head for my coaching was a star. This is because my coaching is:
✨ organised and has structure (my clients tell me they appreciate and value this)
✨ explores different aspects of the coachee and their life (key to coaching and working out the way forward),
✨ allows you to shine like a star!

So, what shape is your practice or business?

Where do you work best?

As is so often the case, the answer for me is 'it depends ...'

Coaching sessions mostly happen seated online or in my home office with a cuppa or cool drink but occasionally we'll do a walking coaching session close to where I live - the disused railway works well.

Networking happens mostly online but sometimes at hotels, coffee shops or out on a walk.

Admin happens at my desk usually as it's useful to have a second screen.

Creative & planning work happens all over the place! Maybe while I'm sunbathing on holiday, maybe while in the bath or in the car and often initial thoughts solidify while I'm on a walk or in the gym.

Learning - In the pic I was beside a lovely local lake studying for an important assessment I have coming up.

Coaching Questions to reflect:
✨ Where do you do your best work?
✨ What environment helps you feel focused, calm or creative?
✨ What would happen if you gave yourself permission to work where you work best?

"If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan." – Jim Rohn

This quote always makes me pause and reminds me of a question we covered in some NLP training that I often come back to: Who's driving your bus?

Are you in the driver's seat, making conscious choices about where you're heading? Or have you handed the wheel to other people's expectations, obligations, habits, or fears?

A few coaching questions to reflect on:
✨ Where in your life are you firmly in the driver's seat?
✨ Where might someone else's expectations be steering your decisions?
✨ What destination do you want to head towards?

As a busy peri-menopausal Mum & wife who runs a business, home and Guide unit I am often after ways to improve my wellbeing and in turn make life easier. While I am doing lots of things very well I felt there was room for improvement with regards to my diet, mainly with relation to plants because I refuse to cook different meals for different people in my house but my kids don't love all veg!

Back in July we (family) did Sam Blackburn's (the energy Nutritionist) Summer Energy reset. It's a month on now and I wanted to share some of the things I'm doing differently. Just like with coaching, I believe, and was after, long-lasting change and new habits that make a difference - not just something I did for a week.

🍽️ We've got some of the recipes on our regular menu rotation - I love that the adults AND the kids in the house enjoyed many of the meals.
🍽️ I'm eating less pasta, pots etc having learnt that I can get enough carbs from veg in a meal and it's delicious.
🍽️ We use a far broader range of spices and herbs (an easy way to increase number of plants we eat).
🍽️ My daughter is having more protein at breakfast (one of the goals for us).
🍽️ I'm making different (better) choices when I eat out.

Coaching Qs - with regards to your wellbeing:
✨ What are you doing well?
✨ Where can you improve?
✨ What is one thing you could try to move you forward?

When I thanked Sam for running the challenge last month she told me that she'll be doing another in Autumn and has recently released the offer online - am keen to see the autumn recipes...

This summer I will be recharging with a full break from work, but did you know that small breaks are extremely beneficial too?

Research suggest 3 x 10 minute breaks a day and the benefits of doing so include:
👍 Improved focus and concentration
👍 Boosted creativity
👍 Reduced stress
👍 Better physical health e.g. reduced shoulder tension and eased eye strain

Coaching Qs to help you take breaks:
✨ What stops you from taking short breaks?
✨ How productive are you when you don't take short breaks?
✨ If you gave yourself permission for a break, what might improve for you?
