If I were to do it all again…

Would I change anything?

Absolutely not!

I’ve had experiences many have only dreamed of.

I’ve worked in departments that people are desperate for.

I’ve given too many sh*ts what people think or will think.

In reality I still do and most days I hesitate to post what I want and I acknowledge that it’s ridiculous! In person my confidence has grown and very rarely do I care, but on social media I stop myself.

I’m 4 months away from turning 45.

I’m 4 months away from having been a personal trainer for 27 years!

I’ve worked in some amazing places, with some amazing coaches, gained 2 degrees, taken part in events that are so far beyond my comfort zone or the 26 year old me of “running is boring”.

What I’ve learnt the most and still trying to take onboard is that if you don’t back yourself and back the people that are worth backing, then no one will.

Be your biggest supporter!

Wise man once said put a silly hat on and avoid getting going pink.

Oh and some factor 50+

Time is a our biggest limiting factor.

It’s what we never have a enough of.

It’s what slips away without us realising.

Exercise/fitness is one of the few things we have control over and it’s one of the key benefactors for living longer and potentially in less pain.

My best advice as a fitness professional of 25 years is make the bare minimum of time.

Whatever I have trained for I always get the best results and the easier journey when…

Phottshoot 2015

I showed up.
Committed to doing the sessions I had on my plan.
Commited to following a plan for the entire time.

Spartan beast 2017

I had a plan.
I had a program.
I paid for support.

Ironman Wales 2017

I acknowledged that I was playing the long game.
Change takes time.
The bigger the goal or the further away I was from that goal then the longer I gave myself.
No gimmicks, no shortcuts, no secrets!

50km trail race

What I find out and what I implement with every client is…

Europe’s toughest mudder (12 hours overnight) 2018

The basics are super UNSEXY!
They do not sell out on the shelves.
They are no promoted my influencers.
They do not make the highlight reel!

Rat Race City to Summit 150 mile 🏃🏼‍♂️ 🚲 🏃🏼‍♂️ 2017

You can not expect to get stronger if you do not do some basic strength work.
You can not expect to get fitter if you do not do some easy and some hard cardio/conditioning.
You can not expect to get leaner if you do not follow some basic day in day out common sense guidelines.

Photo shoot 2013?

The foundations have to be laid first.
You have to build some basic habits that fit into your weekly schedule.
You have to show up!
The good news is that the basics don’t have to dramatically change your life. They can fit into what time you have, it just takes some organising and planning.
The more extreme the goal then the more commitment needed BUT
Build the foundations first!

Assault bike for run 🥴

I had 9.5 miles/15.3km programmed for my run but time wasn’t on my side so I doubled it and completed it on the assault bike.

6x5km @ 55-65RPM kept me at a conversational pace (127-147bpm ❤️).
2 minutes rest between intervals was enough time to take fluid on and stretch.

Adjust the timing and intensity to suit you and although this machine gets a bad rep, I believe the transfer for fitness and mental fortitude to long distance running is second to none 👌🏼

What do you think?

As an average deadlifter

BUT

Way above average coach 😏

Get your set up right
Don’t yank the bar
Drive into the floor
Extend through the hips
It is never a PULL!

Pump up the volume 🎚️

A super easy way to get that RPE 7-8 volume in whilst getting a sweet pump and sweat on.

None of this is about pushing the loads but using a load that allows for moderate repetition efforts.

6 rounds of 10/10/10/20
1 bonus round of max reps with 20 cals to finish.

As a note AI is prettifyingly accurate!

“Literally obsessed”

Maybe 2 of the most ridiculous words used on social media when talking about….well anything!
