It was men in tights and women in long, flowing robes last weekend as 70 archers took their aim.

The Bowmen of Harrow held its annual midaeval banquet and shoot at the John Lyon Playing Fields in Sudbury Hill, Harrow.

Role-playing 15th Century battle scenes and hunting expeditions, club members tested their skills shooting at cardboard animal cutouts, tin cans and a purse of gold hanging on a string.

Hut officer Michael Baily created authentic-looking castle ramparts and interiors from straw and his wife Veronica prepared chicken, beef and other delicacies for the banquet.

"It took me a year to make all the equipment," said Mr Baily, 58, a bus driver of Long Elmes, Harrow Weald, "and I was there at five in the morning putting it all together."

He paid tribute to Veronica and other members, Vince Clarke, Tony Hargreaves and Bernie Greene for their hard work.

A successful match was had on Sunday as we battled it out with both Pinner Archers and Greenwood Osterley Archers at the Metropolitan Sports Club in Bushey.

We won on both Made Score and Handicap! 🥳

This was our last short metric of the year, so massive well done to our Recurve and Barebow teams. 🏹🏹

Up next we will have our Bowmen of Harrow Summer Championships 2026 - an internal summer competition and opportunity for our members to celebrate our club and socialise, as we wave goodbye to the outdoor season (Though we will still be shooting outdoors through the winter)

What are your archery plans for the week?

On Thursday morning we performed a walk back test with a few of our members!

Hopefully we will be having this as well as a couple of other tuning labs as part of our regular monthly sessions!

We faced another trampling by our host this weekend, but It's always a pleasure shooting with our neighbours in blue!

We were also glad to hear one of our Junior members had a wonderful time, having never visited Aquarius before, and he very much enjoyed the Calypso sunlollies!

I think we can all agree those ice treats were the true MVP of the day 😎

A few of us practicing for our next short metric on Sunday against Aquarius Archery Club, a few prepping for their next 252, arrow tuning, and so on!
Great to see a few of our beginners joining in as well!

Our First beginner course at Kenton Sports Club is underway! 🥳

Kit and the team are doing a wonderful job of warming up our new beginners and getting them into the 'string' of things!

We are blessed with mild weather this morning, not too hot, not too cold, no sun in our eyes! 😎

We also have the other side of the field set up for current members to practice their 50m, ready for the short metric we're hosting later!

This weekend we set up both 'Long' ranges for our 252s as we had a lot of members shooting, from 20 yards to 80!

We're now confident to not only run our beginner courses again, but also have casual archers shooting on the opposite side of the field simultaneously. It might not seem like much for some clubs, but for us, having to configure and learn our new grounds and schedules alongside the other clubs sharing the facilities, this is a big step for us 🥳

🏹 252 season is in full swing as we've already had two competitions so far! 🏹
