💙 Remembering Chris Garland 💙

On this day in 2023, Chelsea and the football world lost former Blues striker Chris Garland, who passed away at the age of 74. During his four years at Stamford Bridge, Garland made 114 appearances and scored 31 goals, becoming a valued member of Chelsea's early 1970s side.

A hardworking, courageous and selfless forward, he will always be remembered for his commitment to the badge and his contribution to Chelsea's history.

David Webb: Chelsea’s FA Cup Final Hero

Born in east London, David Webb began his football career with Leyton Orient before moving to Southampton and then joining Chelsea in 1968 for £60,000.

Over the next six years, Webb became a key figure in one of Chelsea’s most celebrated teams. Despite playing mainly in defence, he scored an impressive 33 goals in 299 appearances for the Blues.

His finest moment came in the 1970 FA Cup Final replay against Leeds United at Old Trafford. After a long throw from Ian Hutchinson, Webb rose highest at the far post to head home the winning goal, securing a famous 2-1 victory and Chelsea’s first FA Cup triumph.

The achievement was made even sweeter after Webb had endured a difficult afternoon against Leeds winger Eddie Gray in the original match at Wembley.

Just a year later, Webb helped Chelsea lift the European Cup Winners’ Cup, defeating Real Madrid after a replay in Athens.

After leaving Stamford Bridge for QPR in 1974, Webb remained closely connected to Chelsea. In February 1993, he returned as caretaker manager and successfully guided the club to safety in the top flight. He later managed clubs including Brentford FC, Yeovil Town and Southend United.

For many Chelsea supporters, David Webb will always be remembered as the man whose towering header brought the FA Cup to Stamford Bridge for the very first time. 💙🏆

💙 Remembering John Hollins, who passed away in 2023. 💙

A true Chelsea legend, John Hollins made 592 appearances for the Blues across two spells, winning the League Cup, FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup. He later returned as manager, leading Chelsea to Full Members Cup glory at Wembley.

Beyond Chelsea, he enjoyed distinguished spells with Arsenal and QPR, earned an England cap, and went on to manage Swansea City to the Division Three title in 1999–2000.

More than his achievements on the pitch, John was remembered by those who knew him as a genuine gentleman and a wonderful person.

Gone, but never forgotten.

🏆 Chelsea parading the FA Cup through the streets of West London on 30 April 1970, just a day after defeating Leeds United 2-1 in the famous replay at Old Trafford.

Thousands of Blues lined the streets to celebrate the club's first-ever FA Cup triumph as Dave Sexton, Ron Harris, Peter Bonetti, Peter Osgood, David Webb and the rest of the heroes showed off the trophy from an open-top bus.
