Was there ever a "golden age" of Jiu Jitsu?

Speak to enough practitioners and you'll hear the same opinion repeated.

"Things were better when I started."

The interesting part is that every generation seems to believe it.

From the self-defence roots of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the rise of sport competition, the berimbolo era, leg locks, and today's wrestling influence, the art has never stopped changing.

Perhaps that's the point.

Jiu Jitsu has always evolved. Every generation has questioned the direction it was heading, yet every generation has also left something valuable behind.

Please help if you can ❤️

Many of you will know Ray, the Head Kids Instructor at Kingston Jiu Jitsu.

His 15-year-old daughter, Summer, is bravely fighting leukaemia for the third time.

The months ahead will bring hospital stays, specialist treatment and a huge emotional and financial challenge for their family. We'd love to come together as a community to support them in any way we can.

If you're in a position to donate, no matter how much, it would mean a great deal. If you can't donate, simply sharing the fundraiser is another wonderful way to help.

You can donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/summer-and-her-family-2hrja

Thank you for supporting one of our own. ❤️

The calmer you can stay, the better your Jiu Jitsu becomes. Slow your breathing, slow your mind, and you’ll start to see opportunities that panic hides.

The ankle drag is a simple, high-percentage follow-up from the half guard underhook.

By hooking your opponent's ankle and drawing their knee towards you, you compromise their base and make it much harder for them to defend. From there, you can pull them over, come up on top, and pass directly to side control.

A small favour from the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood community.

We share plenty of jokes, memes and light-hearted posts here, but today we’re asking for something much more important.

Summer is the daughter of Ray, the head kids’ instructor at . She is currently facing leukaemia for the third time and urgently needs a matching stem cell donor.

If you’re in the UK, aged 17–55, and in good health, please take a few minutes to see if you’re eligible to join the stem cell donor register. Registering is quick and simple, and if you’re ever found to be a match, you could quite literally save someone’s life.

Even if you’re not eligible, sharing this post could help it reach the one person who is.

Thank you. ❤️
