Despite Benfica publicly insisting the winger is not for sale, their willingness to negotiate suggests they are open to doing business. Reports also claim Schjelderup is reluctant to sign a new contract, which could strengthen Tottenham's position.

The board must also make sure we get a fair deal instead of another poor-value exit.

The board must get this deal right, though. We’ve seen too many young players struggle for opportunities after returning from loans. If Moore goes, he must come back with a clear pathway into the first team.

The Republic of Ireland international has attracted serious interest, with Tottenham reportedly receiving over 30 enquiries from clubs both in England and abroad.

With so many clubs keen on Melia, Spurs will have plenty of options to consider as they decide on the best destination for his development.

A loan could be the perfect move if he’s guaranteed regular first-team football, but Spurs need to choose carefully.

If Melia is genuinely good enough, Tottenham must have a proper plan for him.
