When you work out, you create tiny micro-tears in muscle fibres. The real adaptation happens afterwards, when your body repairs them and builds them back slightly stronger and more efficient. That’s why sleep, protein, and rest days aren’t optional extras — they’re part of the progress.
So if you ever feel like resting is “slowing you down,” it’s actually the opposite: recovery is where the gains are made.
Tokei Fitness Centre
Welcome to The Tokei Fitness Centre where you will enjoy maintaining and improving your health
Wellness isn’t about being perfect—it’s about creating routines that help you feel and perform at your best. The little things often have the biggest impact: eating nourishing meals, staying hydrated, moving your body, managing stress, and making time to recover.
Progress doesn’t come from one great workout. It comes from looking after yourself day after day so you can keep showing up with energy and purpose.
At Tokei, we’re here to support every step of that journey. Whether you’re in the gym, on the mats, or trying something new for the first time, remember that taking care of your body and mind is part of the training.
This Wellness Wednesday, ask yourself:
✔️ Have I moved today?
✔️ Have I fuelled my body well?
✔️ Have I made time to recover?
✔️ What can I do today that my future self will thank me for?
Strong habits create strong people. Keep building yours, one day at a time.
Seven years have passed since we lost Sensei Orlando, yet it still feels like yesterday. Time may have moved on, but the lessons, guidance, and memories he left with us remain a part of who we are.
On Friday, we dedicated our training session to his memory. Every bow, every technique, and every moment on the dojo floor was a small way of saying thank you for everything he gave us. His passion for karate, his belief in his students, and the values he lived by continue to guide and inspire us.
Sensei, your legacy lives on in every one of us who had the privilege of learning from him. He may no longer be with us in person, but his spirit is present in every training session and in every lesson we pass on to the next generation.
He is deeply missed, never forgotten, and forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Sensei. Osu.
A new week means new opportunities. You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to start.
Every workout, every class, every rep and every step forward is building a stronger version of you. Progress isn’t made by waiting for the perfect moment; it’s made by showing up, putting in the effort, and repeating the habits that move you closer to your goals.
This week, focus on what you can control:
✅ Your attitude
✅ Your effort
✅ Your commitment
The results will follow.
Let’s make this week count. We’ll see you at Tokei—ready to train, improve, and get one step stronger together.
Taking a few minutes today to stretch your shoulders, calves, and quads can help reduce stiffness, improve mobility, and get your body ready for the week ahead.
✅ Shoulders – Release tension and improve your range of motion.
✅ Calves – Ease tightness from walking, running, and leg training.
✅ Quads – Improve flexibility and help your legs recover after a busy week.
A little mobility work today can make tomorrow’s workout feel smoother and stronger. Your body will thank you for it.
How are you spending your Sunday—recovering, stretching, or getting ready for a new week?
One month ago, we put our skills to the test at our Tokei Judo Interclub Competition. 🥋
From first-time competitors stepping onto the mat to experienced judoka pushing themselves in every contest, the day was packed with determination, respect, and fantastic judo. Every throw, hold, escape, and handshake reflected the values we train every week.
Competition isn’t just about medals—it’s about challenging yourself, learning under pressure, and growing with the support of your teammates. Looking back at these highlights is a great reminder of how far everyone has come in just a month.
A huge thank you to everyone who competed, coached, refereed, volunteered, and cheered from the sidelines. Your support is what makes our club such a strong community.
Here’s to many more opportunities to learn, improve, and enjoy the journey together. See you on the mats!
🥋 Ready to be part of the next one? Come and train with us at Tokei—whether you’re completely new to judo or looking to take your skills to the next level.

Wellness isn’t just about the workouts you complete—it’s about everything you do between them. Quality sleep, good nutrition, hydration, mobility, and taking time to recover all play a huge role in helping you become stronger, healthier, and more resilient.
Recovery isn’t a sign of slowing down. It’s where your body adapts, repairs, and prepares for the next challenge. Looking after yourself today means you’ll be ready to train harder tomorrow.
At Tokei, we believe wellness is about building habits that support you for the long term. Whether you’re lifting weights, training in martial arts, or simply staying active, every healthy choice adds up.
Take a few minutes today to stretch, drink some extra water, get outside for a walk, or prioritise an early night. Small actions, repeated consistently, lead to big results.

Another hot night at Tokei but the Tuesday night judo crowd still hit double figures
We gave Harai-goshi some attention, a technique that is often overlooked
Lots of good throws still performed though
